This study is aimed at investigating the effect of the Self-Efficacy Program for Middle School Female Students on Their Self-Efficacy and the Learned Helplessness and Adjustment to School Life, and eventually at verifying the effect of the Program on these three subjects. For this study, I proposed the following questions:
First, What effect does the 'self-efficacy program' have on 'self-efficacy of middle school female students'?
Second, What effect does the 'self-efficacy program' have on 'learned helplessness' of middle school female students?
Third, What impact does the 'self-efficacy program' have on 'adjustment to school life' of middle school female students?
For solving these research questions, 22 subjects who made an engagement to participate in the 'program for enhancing self-efficacy' with personal interview and their parents' approval were selected from the 30 students who received over 125points(they were in upper 25%)in the pretest of 'learned helplessness' implemented to the 199 female students who are in 2nd grade at D-middle school in Busan.
The management of the data was done by using the program, SPSS/PC+ 11.0(Statistical Package Social Science). For investigating if there is difference in the average score of respective tests between experimental group and controled group, average(M) and the standard deviation were examined. Also, t-test was implemented in order to investigate the difference of before, after, further on test results between groups. Furthermore, correlation analysis was implemented to investigate the mutual relation towards self-efficacy, learned helplessness, adjustment to school life.
And for the qualitative analysis of this program, the note of activity experience that students wrote at each term and the letters of their impressions at the ending term were analyzed. The results of this study are summarized as follows:
First, this self-efficacy program was proved to be effective for improving self-efficacy of middle school female students who have high level of learned helplessness, and the effect of the program is especially outstanding towards the condition of pride, one of subordinate factors of self-efficacy.
Second, this program was proved to be effective for decreasing the learned helplessness of the middle school female students who have high level of learned helplessness, and for every subordinate factors except the lack of control ability.
Third, this program was proved to be effective for improving adjustment to school life of the middle school female students who have high level of learned helplessness, and for every subordinate factors
In conclusion, the program for enhancing self-efficacy is proved to be effective for improving self-efficacy and adjustment to school life, and decreasing learned helplessness of the middle school female students who have high level of learned helplessness.
