The purpose of this study is to research that how self-concept is shaped in the demensions of self-concept between females and males in the middle school of Pusan. Futhermore, this is to analyze correlation between self-concept and academic achievement.
The meaning of this study is that when result of this study applies to real schooling. it could help students lead to form the self-concept as it would be useful to learning and guidance.
The problems of concrete study are as follows.
1. The difference of self-concept between males and females in the middle school.
1-1. Is there any difference between them in general self-concept?
1-2. Is there any difference between them in second dimensional self-concept?
1-3. Is there any difference between them in first dimensional self-concept?
2. The correlation between self-concept and academic achievement of middle school students.
2-1. Is there any correlation between general self-concept and the academic achievement?
2-2. Is there any correlation between second dimensional self-concept and academic achievement?
2-3. Is there any correlation between first dimensional self-concept and academic achievement?
For this Purpose, 267 middle school students were randomly sampled. And standardized self-concept test by Song, In Sub and academic achievement test were used for analysis.
The results of this study were as follows.
1. There was no significant difference in the general self-concept between males and females of middle school.
2. Males were more advanced than females in the significant other self-concepts which was first of second dimensional self-concepts. However, females were more advanced than males in the affective self-concept.
3. Male's family self-concept and emotional self-concept were higher than females, but female physical self-concept was higher than males.
4. It was shown that females had high positive correlation between general self-concept and academic achievement.
5. There was high correlation between Academic self-concept and subjective self-concept to both males and females in analyzing of second dimensional self-concept.
6. Achievement self-concept had positive correlation with academic achievement in analyzing of first dimensional self-concept. Also, only females had positive correlation between classroom self-concept or physical self-concept and academic achievement.
