The purpose of this study is to find the effects of social skills program on enhancing self-esteem, social competence and social skills of socially isolated children in school
This research was carried out among twenty first grade students in S elementary school in Busan. The subjects were randomly assigner to two groups, an experimental group consist of 14 members and a control group with 14 members.
The experimental group was trained by the social skills program for 60 minutes a day, twice a week, twice a seek, in total 10 times for 5 weeks from November 30th to December 30th, 2003, while nothing was done to the control group.
The instruments of the test were based on Self Esteem Inventory by Coopersmith(1984), SPPC(Self Perception Profile for children) by Matson, Rotatori and Hesel(1983) and Roster & Rating Scale Measure by Oden and Asher(1977).
The data was analyzed by ANCOVA and SPSS 10.0 program.
The results of the study were as follows.
First, the score of self esteem of the experimental group was significantly increased after training than that of the control group.
Second, the score of social competence of the experimental group was significantly increased after training than that of the control group.
Third, the score of social skills of the experimental group was significantly increased after training than that of the control group.
