신문을 활용한 사회과 수업이 정치사회화에 미치는 영향 = (The) Effects of the Political Socialization from Social Studies Lesson appling Newspapers in Education in High School

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study is to find out if NIE lesson has an effect on the political socialization of high school students.
The experiment had been done in the two groups respectively, each group of 167 students from in June to in the middle of september.
One group had NIE class in social studies and the other group had so-call traditional normal class based on the text. Students of both experiment groups learned the same content. Before the student take social studies lesson, they had before experiment period. After the students take social studies lesson, they had after experiment period.
In the after experiment period, I found out the difference between two groups, and then I investigated how NIE class influences on the political socialization.
The conclusions of this study are as follows.
First the students, after taking NIE class, would show higher level of political knowledge than the students took the text-based class and there were statistically significant differences in political knowledge as well.
Second, the students after taking NIE class, would show higher level of political efficacy than the students took the text-based class and there were statistically significant differences in political efficacy.
Third, the students after taking NIE class, would show higher level of political participation than the students took the text-based class and there were statistically significant differences in political participation.
Fourth, the students after taking NIE class, would show higher level of citizenship duty than the students took the text-based class and there were statistically significant differences in citizenship duty.
When we consider that the political trust was weaker as the school year went up into a higher class, NTE class had little effect on political trust, and there were no significant differences in political trust.
The following is the summary of the result.
In giving the political unit, NIE class is more effective than text-based class for student's positive attitudes toward political socialization.
So When we have the political class, by using NIE class, we know that we can improve political knowledge, political efficacy, political partipation and sense of public duty.
According to the result, three points are as follows for succeeding study.
First, the teacher shouldn't give lessons just only with a textbook in order to have an effect on the process of political socialization in school. It is helpful for us to develop newspaper materials and variety of a medium as the mass media.
Second, we have to examine the textbook in order that social studies lesson have to have an effect on the political knowledge, political efficacy, political participation, citizenship duty and political trust.
Third, we should develop various programs of curriculum and educational methods to improve social education in school. The teacher and the expert should knew that a research into NIE and its firm position as a teaching method at school are needed and used.
