As we define the values of the elderly as 'collecting core values of their goals to reach, or the things they want to finally achieve regardless of their given life situation', taking into account that the values of life are a emotional direction which offer the meaning and goal of life, we can derive that universal opportunity for every elder is the leisure management. Leisure can change us as long as we keep our life value, experiences, and external environmental circumstances.
According to this theoretical evidence, in this research of male and female elderly, it is found that there is a relationship between the social activity participation and social activity satisfaction according to the values.
This paper has conceptualized the life values in order to find out the relationship between the social activity participation rate and social activity satisfactory rate of the elderly and based on this, the main topic was categorized into the collective life values and personal life values, which are the lower factors of the life values. In this theoretical framework, the life value factors which constitute each life value were evaluated, and based on this, we found out significant relationships among the life values, social activities and social activity satisfactory rate of the elderly according to the general characteristic of the elderly. Second, we tried to find out the relationship between the life values of the elderly and the relationship with the social participation and social satisfactory rate. For this purpose, we visited various classes for the elderly in the senior citizens halls and other places where they congregated from October 15, 2003 to November 30th, and carried out surveys on 352 elderly who lived in Chungnam. We collected data from a total of 380 questionnaires and got 365 copies back and excluding the 13 copies which were not completed. From this process, we used 352 copies for my analysis and the results are as follows.
First, there are stronger collective life values of Korean elderly compared to the personal life values. Also the stronger collective life values and the stronger personal life values, the higher social activity participation and the social activity satisfactory rate.
Second, the collective life values were high for those over 70 and low for those under 70. In the case with those with an ordinary or high level of living and for those that were relatively healthy, the personal life values were relatively high.
Third, according to the characteristic of the elderly, there were differences in the social activities. There was high participation rates for religious activities for female elderly and volunteer activities for the male elderly. There was a difference between the welfare center activities and job participation according to the age, education level and income level. There were differences between the location of living and health situation for the small meetings. Also there were differences in the family meetings according to the marriage situation, cohabiter and income earner. There were differences in the senior citizens center activities according to the age, education level and place of living and participation in farming or sales showed a difference according to the place of living.
Fourth, the difference in the social activity satisfactory rate according to the characteristic of the elderly did not show a difference among all characteristics.
Finally, as a result of the Multiple Regression Analysis to find out the relationship between the life values, social activity participation and the social activity satisfactory rate while controlling the effect of other variables, it was found that the social activity satisfactory rate gets higher as the collective life value and the personal life value gets strong.
individual's life values exert a meaningful influence on the social activity satisfactory rate where an elderly establish a relationship with others and experience satisfaction. This study proves that it surpassed the preceding studies on the social activities of the elderly which simply evaluated the rate of social activity participation and looked at the personality characteristics, and showed that the personal life values can exert an important influence. As a conclusion, associations among these variables support that this study has theoretically contributed to the classical theory of the Social Activities.
