The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument(Self-Regulation Rating Scale) in order to screen preschoolers at risk for self-regulation. The items in the scale were developed through literature review and experts in the field. This study measured factor analysis for the validity of items. 427 preschoolers' mothers were asked to rate the appropriation of each item that was developed.
The result of this study were the following:
Total questionnaire composed of 22 items of five factors by factor analysis. The first factor named 'self-monitoring' and Cronbach's alpha of six items were .83. The second factor named 'keeping a rule' and Cronbach's alpha of five items were .74. The third factor named 'inhibition of impulsivity' and Cronbach's alpha of four items were .72. The fourth factor named 'personal emotionality' and Cronbach's alpha of four items were .71. The last factor named 'interpersonal emotionality' and Cronbach's alpha of six items were .71. Cronbach's alpha of total items were .76. These results suggest that the items of this study may be a reliable questionnaire for self-regulation for preschoolers. Further study is necessary to develop a standardization.
