The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the integrated art appreciation activities on young children''s artistry expressivity and creativity. The subjects were 58 five-year-old children who were selected from two classes of B kindergarten located in Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. For this study, they were equally divided into two groups: 29 children in an experimental group, 29 children in a control group. In order to verify the same quality of two groups, both groups were protested for assessing their artistry expressivity and creativity. For 12 weeks, the experimental group children participated in the integrated art appreciation activities, while the comparative group children took part in the simple art appreciation activities. After this experiment, both groups were post-tested in the same way as the pretest. The art appreciation method of this study, which was based on Feldman(1970)''s four steps for art appreciation guidance, was reorganized into description(the introduction of art works), analysis(content appreciation), interpr etation and application(integrated experimental activities), internalization(evaluation and display). Children''s artistry expressivity was assessed by using Krechevsky(1994)''s Project Spectrum on visual art domain. Children''s creativity was assessed by using Korean and Figural Creativity Test for Young Children belonging to the General Creativity Test for Children(Chon, 1999). The mean and the standard deviation were calculated according to the results of the test. The results of this study are as follows First, the integrated art appreciation activities had a positive effect on young children''s artistry expressivity. That is, there were significant differences in artistry expressivity at all levels: representation, exploration and artistry level between two groups. Second, the integrated art appreciation activities had a positive effect on young children''s creativity. In Korean Creativity Test, there were significant differences in flexibility and originality except fluency between two groups. In Figural Creativity Test, there were significant differences in all factors: fluency, flexibility and originality. In conclusion, the integrated art appreciation activities have positive effects on young children''s artistry expressivity and creativity.
