The objective of this research is to a) evaluate and analyze the present elementary school computer education curriculum and its contents, its teaching methods, educational software, teacher training, and administrative and financial support and through this, b) provide insight into improving the current elementary school computer curriculum.
The principle methods adopted for this research are as follows: a) in-depth examination of existing reference on computer education to canvass theoretical background for this research and b) questionnaire evaluation to analyze the problems found in our present elementary school computer education.
In the research, respondents age, sex, teaching experience, location of their school and teaching grade level served as independent causes (variables) and questionnaires of 24 questions falling into 4 categories served as dependent (subordinate) causes (variables). 326 questionnaires were sent out to teachers in the Seoul and Kyung-gi area, and from the 251 retrieved, 248 were selected and analyzed.
The analysis utilized SPSS and frequency, percentage and Chi-Square verification.
The conclusions drawn from this research are:
That a new computer education curriculum must be developed and executed, That the contents of different computer education classes should not overlap one other to ensure systematic computer education schooling, That a new differential curriculum for individual students is becoming more necessary, And that a well-formulated, on-line ethics curriculum should be put into action, in order to enhance the students moral consciousness.
