The home is a place for rearing children, for passing on the parents' worldview to their children, and for nurturing creative ability. But the home has weakness and causes a lot of problems because it has failed to respond to today's social, cultural, and economical trends in a positive way.
As marriage is now treated as a mere social institution and not a scared institution as created by God, many couples easily divorce when encountering marriage conflicts. Even many christian couples also divorce in the same situation.
God shows us that Christians should practice understanding, concern, forgiveness, and love in their marriage. So in order establish a sound marital life, we need to be governed by the Bible. For example, Ephesians 5:21 says that "we should submit to each other." This is the core verse for Christian couples guide their marital life.
A great many counseling experts maintain that the first step to prevent divorce is a pre-marital program of instruction. But only a few Christian couples participate in such a course. In addition couples are will encounter various dangerous marital conflicts. So it is necessary to develop the such a program as the ENRICH PROGRAM in the Christian community, especially in the church.
In this research, the author deals with the biblical principles of marriage and divorce, the nature of the relationship between husband and wife, the causes of marriage conflict, and the necessary factors for an abundant marital life when they have children. The author observed the education programs that make the best use of the ENRICH PROGRAM in churches. And the author suggests utilizing the ENRICH PROGRAM in order to help Christians strengthen their marriage.
The ENRICH PROGRAM provides couples the opportunity to review their marriage life on the basis of understanding, knowing, accepting oneself and each other. In addition, the ENRICH PROGRAM can help spouses who have some problems entering relationships that are interdependent and intimate. Relationships can be enhanced through a variety of meaningful activities that utilize and enhance communication skills to effectively resolve marriage conflicts.
In today's society that is approaching a 50% are divorce ratio, the families in the Christian community are confronting a great danger that will becomes a greater threat in the future. So the church that seeks to protect the family should introduce the ENRICH PROGRAM and extend it. And the church need to educate and develop counselors.
