유아용 글 없는 그림책의 주제에 따른 Illustration 표현 연구

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Since the printing has been common and easily accessible, a picture book, which contains pictures and stories, has been in charge of very important role in educating an infant for developing their imagination.
Recently, the wordless picture book becomes very popular, because it turns out to be more effective to develop infants by not providing words or stories to them. Since no story is given, infants make own stories through their imagination. It stimulates their imagination and increases their creativity.
By contrast to past picture books which pictures were only supplement to send illustrations of stories in story telling books, pictures of wordless picture books are changed to the primary method to send actual stories. So the role of pictures in the picture book is also changed compared to previous picture books.
The goal of this research is to suggest new directions to the wordless picture book. This paper will find meanings of illustrations in the wordless picture book, and analyzes the illustrations of the current picture book.
To achieve the goal, this research is based on documents for wordless picture books and relationships between the wordless picture books and infants. Also the illustrations of wordless picture books are based on current books available.
The result is that wordless picture books have huge impact on infants because they develop intelligence and characteristics by touching and watching books and get perceptions from it. It develops infants language skill as well as creativity because infants need to tell and reconstruct their own stories.
Also the research on current wordless picture books indicates that there are three categories for forms, which are descriptive forms, abstract forms, and symbolic forms, two categories for colors, which are monochromatic and multicolor, four categories for materials, which are the wet process material, the dry process material, the mixing material, computer graphics, two categories for flat composition and solid composition.
Based on analysis mentioned above, several conclusions have been made.
First, there is an illustration of unique characters and colors for infants.
Second, there is no stereo typed illustration, but there are various illustrations of proper materials, expressions, and structures depending on contents.
Third, most of picture books illustrate contents by various methods of expressions.
Fourth, the educational part of wordless picture book is that illustrators of wordless picture book show themselves as creators of stories with expanded imaginations and expressions.
In conclusion, the wordless picture book provides the creativity and also extracts various imaginations by stimulating unconsciousness of infants. These lead infants to have the power of imaginations helping to develop the world of modeling.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

유아용 그림책은 유아 교육을 위한 중요한 수단으로서 유아의 상상력 개발에 결정적인 역할을 담당하고 있음은 주지의 사실이다. 이 때문에 활자매체가 일반화되면서 글과 그림이 어우러진 유아용 동화책이 일반화되기 시작했고 문자 해독 능력이 없는 유아는 부모나 친지가 읽어주는 것을 통해 그림을 보며 나름대로의 상상력을 키워왔음도 주지의 사실이다.
그러나 근래에 이르러 문자 없는 그림만의 동화책이 급속히 확산되고 있는 바, 이것은 글 없는 그림책을 통하여 유아가 제 나름대로의 주관적인 상상력으로 스토리를 재구성해냄으로써 각각의 창의력을 생산적으로 신장시켜 주고자 함에 그 목적이 있는 것이다. 이에 따라 이 새로운 장르는 근래에 인기가 크게 확산되어 가고 있다.
따라서 이 글 없는 그림책에서의 일러스트레이션의 기능은 과거와는 달리 글을 중심으로 한 보조적인 역할에서 그 자체가 스토리성을 지니는 주체적인 역할로 바뀌었으며 이 때문에 이 장르에서의 일러스트레이션의 기능과 역할은 글 있는 그림책에 비해 상당히 변모하게 되었다.
본 연구는 글 없는 그림책 일러스트레이션이 글 없는 그림책에서 어떠한 의미를 가지고 있는지 파악하고, 현재 사용되고 있는 일러스트레이션을 주제에 따라 분석하여 이를 토대로 글 없는 그림책 일러스트레이션의 새로운 방향을 제시하는 데 그 목표를 두고자 한다.
이를 위해, 글 없는 그림책의 개념에 대해서 문헌조사를 통해 연구하였고, 글 없는 그림책과 유아와의 관계를 알아보았다. 그리고 글 없는 그림책의 일러스트레이션에 대해서는 현재 시판중의 그림책을 통해 조사하였다.
그 결과 유아는 그림책을 만지고, 쳐다보고, 그것에 반응하면서 새로운 인지도식을 형성하고, 글 없는 그림책의 그림을 보고 이야기를 하기 때문에 언어발달에 깊은 영향을 받게되며, 유아 스스로가 의미를 재구성해내야 하기 때문에 창의성이 크게 신장된다는 점이다. 또한, 일러스트레이션은 미적 감각의 신장에도 커다란 영향을 미친다.
또한, 현재 시판중의 글 없는 그림책의 일러스트레이션을 비슷한 주제에 따라 분석한 결과 형태에 따라 사실적 표현, 추상적 표현 그리고 상징적 표현이 있는 것으로 드러났으며, 색채에 따라 단색, 다색이 있는 것으로, 질감은 습식 재료, 건식 재료, 습식과 건식이 같이 쓰인 혼합재료, 컴퓨터 그래픽 등이 있는 것으로 나누어진다. 그리고 구도는 평면적인 구도와 입체적인 구도로 볼 수 있다.
이상의 분석결과를 토대로 한 연구를 종합해 보면,
첫째, 유아를 고려한 독특한 캐릭터나 색상을 갖춘 일러스트레이션이 있다.
둘째, 천편일률적인 일러스트레이션이 아니라 내용에 따라 적합한 재료와, 표현, 그리고 체제가 갖추어져 있다.
셋째, 대개의 일러스트레이션이 다양한 표현방법으로 내용을 전개시켜나간다.
넷째, 글 없는 그림책의 교육적인 역할을 깊이 인식하여 일러스트레이터는 자신의 상상력과 표현력의 다양화를 통한 스스로가 이야기 창조자로서의 능력을 펼쳐 보인다.

결론적으로 글 없는 그림책 일러스트레이션은 유아에게 창조적인 시각을 갖게 하는 동시에 내면의 무의식의 세계를 자극하여 다양한 상상력을 유도해낼 수 있도록 하며, 이러한 상상력의 힘을 통해 새로운 조형세계를 창조할 수 있는 원동력이 된다.
