This research has done in order to examine the relationship between the job stress of the teachers and psychological reaction and to develope the methods of preventing and decreasing the teacher's job stress. It can also provide the data which can help improve the working condition of teachers.
The followings are the problems of this study;
First, what kind of differences are there in the job stress factors in terms of population statistics ?
Second, what kind of differences are there in mental and physical health factors in terms of population statistics ?
Third, what kind of differences are there in burnout reaction in terms of population statistics ?
Forth, what kind of relationship is there in the stress sub-factors of teachers, the mental and physical health elements and burnout reaction?
For this research 500 copies of questionaries were distributed to the elementary, middle and high school teachers of Seosan and Taean area. Among 500 copies, 484 copies which consisted of 226 male teachers and 258 female teachers were analyzed for this study.
The investigation tool which was used in this research was the questionaries on the teacher's stress experiences and burnout situations, which the research of Kyriacou and the Sutcliffe (1980) was translated and applied by Chung-Whie Kim(1991). This questionaries is composed with 40 questions measuring the stress of teachers, 38 questions measuring the mental and physical factors, and 22 questions measuring the burning out degree of the teachers.
Above all in order to examine the difference of the job stress, mental and physical health reaction and burnout of job stress, mental and physical responses, and burnout of teachers, t-test and variance analysis(F verification) were performed. Next, Pearsons' Correlation Analysis was performed to see the relationship between job stress of teachers, mental and physical health area and burnout. Lastly, multiple regression analysis was done to analyze the influence job stress of teachers has on mental and physical health reaction and burnout of teachers.
For the analysis, SAS program was used to make the analysis.
The conclusion of this study is like followings;
First, there was difference in job stress of teachers in sex(in the situation of authority loss and overloading women are stressed higher compared with men), the present position (the department head teather's stress is higher than general teacher for the poor-treatment), school in service (the teacher serving in girls' school is the highest in stress), student composition (teachers in junior high school are lower in stress compared with elementary and high school teachers).
Second, there are considerable differences in sex, age, teaching experience, school in service. As sub-factors in mental and physical symptoms of each sex, female teachers are higher than man teacher, while male teachers are higher than female teachers in dissatisfaction of job.
Third, considering to a teaching profession career and a service school class, burning out experience(the female teachers than male teachers, less teaching career, from age 30) feel more chronic fatigue.
Forth, there are teachers, the job stresses and mental physical health elements about the state interrelation. Namely, the recording mental where the stress will be high. Body condition and melancholia, Job dissatisfaction and anxiety all it was high. The relationship of the job stress and chronic fatigue will be high and emotional depletion was high.
Based on the results of the study, the following suggestions were made.
First, exception for sex, age, the present position, teaching profession career, effect the wild outside which is a school composition, it cannot treat a restricted point at the composition of question. So, the succeeding research must treat many factors.
Second, we can develop the education efficiency through teacher and improvement of service environment. Teachers must think about ways that the teachers are comfortable.
Third, we face the mental physical health problem. Considering mental physical health problem, discord/complication, authority loss and low salary, we must establish constructive policy.
This study suggests that relationships between the job stress of the teachers and psychological responses.
