This study aims to identify the difficulties that the kindergarten directors perceive and to examine the frequency of appearance and the intensity of difficulties of each problem. This study also analysed if there are differences of the frequency of appearance and the intensity of difficulties of each problems according to the social background(location, experience, scholastic ability) of the kindergarten directors.
The 85 directors of private kindergarten were participated in this study. They answered to the questionnaire of 85 items about the frequency of appearance of problems and the intensity of difficulty that they perceive. The items of the questionnaire were collected by interview with kindergarten directors, and classified by 11 domains based on the study of Kim, Shinyoeng(1998). The means of the frequency of appearance of problem were calculated and arranged by order of magnitude. The means of the intensity of difficulty of each problem were also arranged by order of magnitude. The correlation between the frequency of appearance and the intensity of difficulty of problems was examined by Pearson's correlation. The differences of the frequency of appearance and of the intensity of difficulty of the problems according to experience and scholastic ability, location were also analysed by one-way ANOVA and Duncan's post hoc multiple comparison.
The results were as follows:
First, the frequency of appearance was the highest in education system problem. Other problems could be arranged by the frequency of appearance as teaching and learning, equipment and facilities, programs, relation with parents of young children, development of the director's ability, management of time, relation with teachers, economy and relation with local society.
Second, the problems could be arranged by order of the intensity of difficulty as follows: education system, economy, equipment and facilities, teaching and learning, programs, relation with parents of young children, development of the director's ability, management of facilities, relation with local society, relation with teachers, relation with colleague. Generally, the higher the frequency of appearance of a problem was, then the intensity of difficulty of the problem was higher. As for the result of the analysis of the correlation, there was high correlation between the frequency of appearance and the intensity of difficulty.
Third, There were significant differences in the frequency of appearance and the intensity of difficulty of the problems according to experience and scholastic ability of director. But there were no significant differences according to the location of kindergarten. The differences according to director's experience were observed in the problems such as development of the director's ability, equipment and facilities, programs, local society and economy, etc. The poorer was the experience, the frequency of appearance and the intensity of difficulty of the problems were higher.
Finally, the director with a higher scholastic ability conceived the education system as a difficult problem.
