Teachers are the key personnels to facilitate the growth of education. However, they face a lot of difficulties in teaching students as they are pressed with heavy work load.
The purpose of this study was to examine how much nonessential duties were assigned to elementary school teachers and how they perceived them and their workload. It's ultimately meant to delve into how their routine work could be cut down.
All sorts of reference books and earlier studies on the nonessential duties of elementary school teachers were reviewed, and a survey was conducted with questionnaires that were prepared on that theoretical base and asked about the definition of routine work, its problems, outlook on that, and opinions on how to reduce or get rid of that.
After the collected data were analyzed, the following findings were given:
First, most of the teachers investigated agreed that nonessential duties could be defined as what's not directly related to curriculum operation, guidance, carer guidance, personality guidance, school management, classroom management and every relevant educational activity.
Second, routine work had ever made them to disregard academic guidance, guidance, extracurricular activities, career guidance, counseling or classroom management, and they suffered growing conflicts with other teachers.
Third, nonessential duties resulted in deteriorating education, and was regarded as one of the educational problems that needed for immediate solution.
Fourth, in order to reduce routine work, it's needed to have the higher government agencies less intervene in school affairs, take advantage of separate administrative personnels and volunteers, simplify approval procedures and divide teaching posts and administrative ones. Above all, efficient job division and interpersonal cooperation were the major factor that could cut down on routine work.
Thus, it's attempted in this study to identify what factors were associated with teacher routine work and to set up a viable model that could bring that matter to settlement, after looking into earlier studies and making a case study.
