The purpose of this research was to grasp the relationship between parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students and their self-esteem. Parents' raising attitudes were divided into those of mothers and fathers, and each was surveyed to find out whether there is any difference in children's self-esteem.
Firstly, how do parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence the self- humility of their children?
Secondly, how do parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence the social relationship of their children?
Thirdly, how do parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence the leadership and popularity of their children?
Fourthly, how do parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence the self-contention and uneasiness of their children?
Five hundred and fifteen 6^(th) grade students from three elementary schools in Seosan participated in this research. The scale of measuring parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students was 'the Test of Parents' raising Attitudes' of Jong-sung, Lee (1982) and the scale of measuring self-esteem was 'the Self-esteem Inventory' of Coopersmith(1976), translated by Jong-goo, Gang (1986).
How four parents' attitude types in raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence on their self-esteem were verified by frequency analysis, variable analysis and regression analysis using SAS.
The result of this research is outlined below.
Firstly, how parents' attitude on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influences the self- humility of their children was that their children's self-humility was low when both parents had rational raising attitudes.
Secondly, how parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence the social relationships of their children was that, when both parents had rational raising attitudes, it significantly influenced the social relationships of their children.
Thirdly, how parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence the leadership and popularity of their children was that, when both parents had loving attitudes, it significantly influenced the leadership and popularity of their children.
Fourthly, the result of surveying how parents' attitudes on raising their children recognized by elementary school students influence the self-contention and uneasiness of their children found that there was no significant variable.
From the above results, when parents' attitudes on raising their children are rational and lovely, it significantly influences the overall areas of the self-esteem of their children. Therefore, when parents rationally control, consult with, and encourage their children with lovely and receptive attitudes, it positively develops self-esteem and finally, significantly influences the self-achievement of their children.
