The study is designed to find relationships between the old age plans and satisfaction in senior citizen's life in the rural and agricultural community. A survey is conducted on 120 senior citizens residing in the rural community. Important points of this study is as the following:
First, the old age plans for these respondents are converted into one-hundredth scale, and the plan for physical welfare is 60.1, the plan for mental welfare is 56.4, and the plan for financial welfare is 49.1. The average is 55.2.
Second, the plan for physical welfare of senior citizens differs depending on their awareness of health, religion, and monthly income. Those who answered that they are very unhealthy or very healthy have more prepared than those who answered otherwise. Those whose religion is Christianity and whose monthly income is high are also more prepared than others.
Third, the plan for mental welfare of senior citizens differs depending on religion, educational background, and awareness of health. Those who are Christians, have higher education, are healthy tend to have plans for their old age.
Fourth, the plan for financial welfare of senior citizens differs depending on their educational background and awareness of health. The group with higher education tends to have more plans for their old age than the group with less education. The group who think that they are healthy tends to have more plans for their old age than the other group.
Fifth, the degree to which senior citizens feel satisfaction in their life is an average of 2.72 on the one-hundredth scale. Many answered that they "do not agree" or it is just "average". Dissatisfied took 3.19: they answered "so-so" or "agree". The number of those who feel dissatisfaction is higher than those who are satisfied.
Sixth, satisfaction in the lifestyle differ depending on religion, monthly income, the fact that they live together with someone or not, the awareness of health. Senior citizens who are Christians tend to be more satisfied than others who have other or no religion. Senior citizens with monthly income higher than 210,000 Won tend to be more satisfied than those who have less monthly income. Those who have someone to live together tend to be more satisfied than those who do not. Those who think they are healthy are more satisfied than those who do not. No distinctive feature concerning sociology of population is to be found in the group who are dissatisfied.
The analysis on the effect of plans for old age on satisfaction shows that the plan for mental welfare has the greatest effect. Senior citizens who are Christians, feel that they are healthy, have relatively higher monthly income, live with their children tend to be more satisfied. Such result shows that senior citizens feel more satisfied in their old age when they have mental and spiritual stability rather than when they have physical health of financial means. It is also studied that religion, educational background and health bring senior citizens mental and spiritual health. It is also important to notice that senior citizens who live with their children are happier.
