조사 학습 능력 향상을 위한 IIM 프로그램의 효과 : 초등학교 5학년 과학 심화반 학생들을 대상으로 = Effects of an IIM Program that enhances Research Learning Ability Enhancement

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 조사 학습 지도를 위해 미국에서 개발된 ⅡM 프로그램을 연구하고 이를 바탕으로 활동지를 개발하여 우리나라 학생들에게 적용시킨 후 ⅡM 프로그램이 우리나라 학생들의 조사 학습 능력을 향상시키는데 효과가 있는지 알아보는 데 있다.
ⅡM 프로그램과 관련된 문헌 연구를 통해 7단계로 구성된 21쪽 분량의 활동지를 개발하였으며 개발된 활동지를 초등학교 5학년 과학 심화반 학생 15명에게 적용하였다. 활동지 적용 횟수는 3회이며 적용 기간은 매 회 2주씩으로 하여 전체 6주로 이루어 졌다. 학생들이 작성한 활동지와 산출물을 '나의 질문 개수', '사용한 자료의 수', '자료의 유형', '나의 질문과 요점정리 내용과의 일치도', '요점 정리 내용과 산출물 내용과의 일치도' 등의 11가지 분석 기준을 세워 분석하였다,
또한 아동용 활동 사후용 검사지 투입시킨 후 결과 분석을 통해 ⅡM 프로그램이 조사 학습 능력 향상에 효과적인지를 알아보았다.
연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, ⅡM 프로그램은 학생들의 조사 활동을 체계적으로 향상시키는데 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 3차 활동으로 진행될수록 자신들이 조사 하고자 하는 주제에 대한 질문 내용과 그 질문에 해당하는 내용을 조사한 사실 조사 기록문(Notefact), 사실 조사 기록문(Notefact)을 통한 요점 정리 내용과 산출물의 내용에 대한 일치도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, ⅡM 프로그램은 학생들의 조사 활동을 독립적으로 향상시키는데 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 학생들 스스로 평가하고 부족한 점을 보충하여 3차 활동으로 진행될수록 평가 학점이 높아졌으며 학생용 설문지 분석결과 ⅡM은 조사 과제를 스스로 끈기 있게 완수해 주는데 도움을 주는 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, ⅡM 프로그램은 학생들이 복사나 표절 하지 않는 내용으로 산출물을 만들도록 하는데 효과가 있었다. 학생들의 산출물 내용은 자신들이 범주화한 사실 조사 기록문(Notefact)의 내용을 바탕으로 하여 문장으로 만든 것이기 때문에 참고 자료에서 무조건 내용을 복사하거나 표절하는 일이 없었다.
넷째, ⅡM 프로그램은 학생들이 조사하고자 하는 주제에 관한 지식을 습득하는데 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 학생들이 조사 내용을 발표하는 동안에 산출물의 내용을 보지 않고 설명하는 경우가 많아졌으며 학생용 설문지 분석 결과 주제에 관하여 깊이 있게 배울 수 있었고 과학 지식이 증가했다는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
결론적으로 ⅡM 프로그램은 학생들의 조사 학습 능력을 체계적이고 독립적이며, 복사나 표절하지 않고 산출물을 만들게 하며 주제에 관한 지식을 습득하는 데도 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
그러나 ⅡM 프로그램은 미국의 실정에 맞추어 개발된 학습 프로그램이므로 우리나라에서도 학생들의 조사 학습 능력을 향상시키기 위한 프로그램의 개발 및 적용 연구가 계속 되기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of the study is to see if an ⅡM program has an effect on the Korean students' investigation skills, Students' worksheets for learning investigation methods were developed, applying an ⅡM program that had been developed in USA. The developed ⅡM program in this study consisted of 7 steps with worksheets of 21 pages and was applied to 15 students in a Grade 5 Gifted Science Class, During the program, the students investigated the three topics for 6 weeks. The students' worksheets and products were analyzed in terms of 11 analysis criteria such as 'Number of My Questions,' 'Number of Used Materials,' 'Type of Materials,' 'Consistency between My Questions and Summary Contents' and 'Consistency between Summary Contents and Product Contents.' Additionally, the students' ideas on the program were surveyed. The research results through analysis were as follows.
First, the ⅡM program was proven to be effective in the systematic enhancement of the students' investigation skills. As the activities progressed, the consistencies between the questions and notefacts, and between the summary contents and the products contents were enhanced.
Second, the ⅡM program was proven to be effective in the independent enhancement of the students' investigation skills. Students evaluated their works and supplemented anything insufficient themselves. Their self-evaluation scores became higher with the progress of the activities, When analyzing the surveys for students, the ⅡM was proven to help students to finish their research tasks completely and patiently.
Third, the ⅡM program was effective. in enabling students to make their products without copying or pirating. As the students' products were based on the notefacts that they made and categorized themselves, they didn't need to copy or pirate the resource materials without consideration.
Fourth, the ⅡM program was effective in acquiring knowledge on the subjects that students wanted to research. They often explained their research without reading their products. They felt in the survey that they could learn the subject in depth and come to have more scientific knowledge after the ⅡM program.
Conclusively, the ⅡM program was effective in enabling the students to investigate systematically and independently, to make products without copying and pirating, and to acquire knowledge on the subjects in question. However, as the ⅡM program was developed for the situations in the USA, we need to develop a customized program and research how to apply the program to enhance the Korean students' investigation skills.
