The purpose of this study was to compare the difference of attachment security according to child's age at time of adoption and to investigate the relationship of attachment security and child temperament, attachment security and mother's parenting behavior.
The sample comprised of 27 pairs of 2-4 years of age adopted children and their mothers. The instruments of this study were Attachment Q-set(water, 1987), the Toddlers Temperament(choi, 1992) and the IPBI(Iowa Paret Behavior Inventory:Mother Form). Attachment scores of adopted children used criterion scores developed for Korean infant. The statistical procedures used for data analyses were Pearson's correlation and t-test.
The results of the study were the following:
First, there was no significant difference in attachment security according to child's age at time of adoption. But children who were adopted children before 6 months showed more enjoying physical contacts.
Second, there was a significant correlations between attachment security and temperament of adopted children. They showed positive correlation between activity factor of children's temperament and difficulty factor of attachment security and negative correlation between activity factor of children's temperament and compliance factor of attachment security.
Finally, there were no significant correlations between attachment security and mother's parenting behavior.
