지도층 여인의 스타일 연구 : 서양과 한국을 중심으로 = (A) Study on the Women Style of the First Ladies : Western Style vs Korean Style

Styles of the first ladies are the symbol of the value which speaks for an era and though. The study for change of hair styles of the first ladies gives lots of help for us to understand for a social and cultural background that decides upon the era and also a specific character for an effect and fashion style of the public culture because this style does not include only all other decorate elements but also the head decoration, the make-up, and clothing.
There are two major parts on this study. The first is not only a social and cultural background of the centerof nobility before modern time and the center of public after modern time between 1950's to 1980's but also a stylistic history based on a center of nobility and public. Follow by the first, the second is the hair style and the meaning of whole fashion style that Mrs. Jacqueline and Mrs. Diana was representative of a western style and Mrs. Yuk Young-su was representative of 1960's Korea.
Within previous strong and powerful high-level culture, an elegance and beauty that they had to have as the first ladies was harmonized with public fashion code because their own original styles were agreed with pertinent period circumstance. The unique'Jackie Style'and'Diana Style'on the beginning of 20th western were settled down as a unique icon. Jacqueline and Diana was typical of an ideaof new-generation that rise up on the 1960～80's social of The U.S.A and The British. Otherwise Mrs.Yuk Young-su made a graceful and artless model of lady, which was introduced with a service to public voluntarily, as a representationto high-level on an economic depressive era around 1960's Korean war.
Let's try to observe what direction the hair style of high-level women goes based on symbolic element of hair style when political and sociological period background was the symbol of an authority. In case of Jacqueline, she applied her high-level culture style through political image to political campaign in order to get into the point of citizen view and also showed the feature of new high-level women to fix new-spirit theory of the Kennedy Administration.
In opposition, Mrs. Diana was the role of medium that lady on medium-high-class became to royal lady and the public culture was connected with loyal culture. Her variable style carried out a reform of the royal household which is difficult of access and changed it into fashion leader of that era. At last, in case of Mrs. Yuk Young-su, she was representative of the commons life encountered with economic crisis and also tried to inform our situation to the world. The Style of Mrs. Yuk Young-su shows that high-class culture is same as public culture. They do not have only a common historic feature that they got paid attention of public at their young age but also that they were a party to their husband's political activities. There are more researches have to be studied what effects do and directions go their own historical circumstance, political background, and popularity and superiority of style as a model of these high-class women hair style, fashion, and culture on and to a public culture in the further.
