住民參與를 통한 地域社會警察活動의 活性化 方案에 관한 硏究 = Research for the Plans of Activating the Community Policing through the Community Participation

Considering the up-to-now police activities, limited budget and the number of the police force, it is impossible to effectively curb the increasing tendency of crime. Therefore, it is essential to elicit the cooperation and participation from the community to solve the serious problem of crime in our society. From that viewpoint, there arise the need to introduce to our society the community policing which has already been widely adopted in developed countries, especially in America.
The aim of this research is to suggest an alternate plans of public policy for the community policing befitted to Korean society through the study of the theories and practices of the community participation to the policing in other countries. By way of this research, I came to know that, for the purpose of successful adoption of the community policing to our society, the first thing to do is to get rid of the negative images about the police from the public minds. Furthermore, I also make some suggestions in this research including the search for the autonomous policing system and strengthening the cooperative function of police box in National Police Agency, which must be carried out for the success of the community policing in this country
I sincerely acknowledge that there are some shortfalls in this research about the way of finding the practical problems in case of the adoption of the community policing to our reality. It's because I didn't have enough time to survey the opinions of policemen how much they understand the community policing and of the public what they want the police to do.
I expect that various research and studies about the community policing will continue to be made in the future and it will not be long before we shall enjoy the fruits of the efforts. And that can lead to the better society in which both the community and the police will go hand in hand as the co-producer of the civil society.
