The Kapshin Chongbyon(Coup d'Etat of 1884) led by Kim Ok-Kyun(金玉均) on the December 1884 lasted only three days because of the intervention of China. Kim Ok-Kyun, after failing in the coup, sought refuge in Japan and planned to resume his words again. however, the Japanese Government took a moderate policy for foreign countries after the Coup, and so he could not receive a support from Japan. contacted by Kim Ok-Kyun, although he had not talked with them in depth, influenced the treatment of him by the Japanese government after the event. Having recognized that he was not on a diplomatical obstacle but also a dangerous figure in the domestic public security, Japanese government proceeded to excluded him actively after this event. When Korea and China demanded to deliver Kim Ok-Kyun back them, Japan refused their demand. So Korea send a killer to assassinate Kim Ok-Kyun.
Finding out the threat, Kim Ok-Kyun asked the Japanese government to protect his life. But the Japanese government wanted to solve the problem by withdrawing him from Japan. Kim Ok-Kyun refused to be withdrawn from Japan, and so Japanese gavenment exiled him to Ogasawara-do(小笠原島) and Hokkaido (北海道). But soon Kim Ok-Kyun was released from exile and engaged in politics again. The Korean government tied to assassinate him for preventing his political activities. And Kim Ok-Kyun was killed by the killer, Hong Jong-woo in Shanghai.
The assassination of Kim Ok-Kyun was not just a case of murder, because three countries, Korea, China and Japan wanted to assassinate him for their own interests. This is proved by historical facts. The Korean government sent a killer to kill him.The Chinese government induced him to be killed through the Japanese Embassy in China, The Japanese government had already k n o ~ ~ n the plan to kill him, but the Japanese government did not take any measure to prevent the killing.
Also the assassination of Kim Ok-Kyun gave a good reason for Japan to go to the war against China (so-called, The Sino-Japanese war). After Korea's annexation to Japan, Kim Ok-Kyun's Samhya Joohe(三和主義) was distorted into a theory of the Continental Aggression, and Kim Ok-Kyun was recognized as a forrunner of the Greater
East Asian Co-prosperity Sphere. Misjudged by this, Kim Ok-Kyun was to be caused Fro- Japanese.
