共感과 利他行動과의 關係 = (The) Relationship between Empathy and Altruistic Behavior

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 중, 고등학생을 대상으로 공감과 이타행동의 관계를 알아보기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 구체적인 연구문제는 다음과 같다.
〔문제1〕 공감의 정도는 성별과 연령에 따라서 차이가 있는가?
〔문제2〕 이타행동의 정도는 성별과 연령에 따라서 차이가 있는가?
〔문제3〕 공감과 이타행동은 어떤 관계가 있는가?
본 연구의 대상은 중학교에서 2학년 남자 169명, 여자 171명 (합 340명), 고등학교 2학년 남자 140명, 여자 158명 (합 298명) 총 638명이다.
연구에 사용된 이타행동검사는 연구자가 직접 제작하였고, 공감검사는 Mehrabian과 Epstein(1972)의 정서 공감 척도(Emotional Empathy Scale)와 Davis(1980)가 제작한 대인관계 반응 지수(Interpersonal Reaction Index), Bryant(1982)가 제작한 정서공감 척도(Index of Empathy for Children and Adolescents)를 참고하여 연구자가 재구성하였다.
검사는 2003년 4월에 각 학교 교사들의 도움을 받아 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 성별과 연령에 따른 공감과 이타행동의 정도차이는 평균차 검증을 하였고, 공감과 이타행동과의 관계를 알아보기 위하여 상관계수 차이검증을 하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 주요 결과는 다음과 같다.
1. 성별에 따른 공감수준차이검증에서 인지공감은 중학생에서는 통계적으로 유의한 수준에서 여학생이 남학생보다 높으나 고등학생에서는 차이가 없다. 정서공감수준에서는 중, 고등학생 모두에서 여학생이 남학생보다 유의한 수준에서 높으며 중학생집단에서보다 고등학생집단에서 더 큰 차이가 있다.
2. 연령에 따른 공감수준차이검증에서 인지공감은 남, 여학생 모두 연령간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않는다. 정서공감수준에서는 남학생은 차이가 없는 반면에 여학생은 중학생보다 고등학생이 더 높다.
3. 성별과 연령에 따른 이타행동수준검증에서는 성별, 연령을 막론하고 이타 행동에서는 통계적으로 유의한 차이 없다.
4. 공감과 이타행동의 상관은 중학생의 경우 .682이며, 공감의 하위요인중 인지공감이 정서공감보다 이타행동에 설명력이 더 높다.
고등학생에서의 상호상관은 .580이며 인지공감보다 정서공감과의 상관이 더 높다. 특히 인지공감과 물질도움과의 상관이 제일 낮다.
얻어진 연구결과를 토대로 다음과 같은 결론을 내릴 수 있다.
1. 중, 고등학생집단에서 공감과 이타행동은 정적상관이 있다.
특히 공감의 하위요인인 인지공감과 정서공감은 모두 이타행동의 정신적 도움과 높은 상관이 있다.
2. 중학생은 정서공감보다 인지공감이 이타행동과 더 높은 상관이 있으며, 고등학생은 인지공감보다 정서공감과 더 높다 그러나 공감총점과 이타행동간의 상관은 고등학생보다 중학생이 더 높다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis has an aim to research the relationship between empathy and altruistic behavior of the student entering the middle school and highschool. The problems to be investigated are as followings.
[Problem ] Is there any difference in the degree of empathy by sex and age level?
[Problem 2] Is there any difference in the degree of altruistic behavior by sex and age level?
[Problem 3] What relation is there between empathy and altruistic behavior?
The participants of this study is 638 students, is consisted of 340 middle school students and 298 high school students. The instruments of the study were Emotional Empathy Scale and Altruistic Behavior Scale
The main results of the studies are as followings.
1. In verification of the difference of empathy level between sex in the middle school, the girl students' cognitive empathy is higher than that of the boy students, but in case of highschool student there is no difference. In the difference of emotional empathy level, the girl student is higher than the boy student in both
2. In verification of the difference of empathy level by age, there is no meaningful difference between the boy student and the girl student in the case of cognitive empathy. In the case of the boy student's emotional empathy level, there is no difference, and in the case of the girl student's emotional empathy level, that of high school student is higher than that of middle school.
3. In the verification of the level of altruistic behavior between sex and by age level, there is no meaningful difference statically based on sex and age.
4. Correlation coefficient between empathy and altruistic behavior in the middle school student, is 682 and the correlation between altruistic behavior and cognitive empathy is higher than that of emotional empathy.
This thesis got conclusions as followings.
1. The empathy and the altruistic behavior have a high correlation in the group of the middle school student as well as the high school student.
2. In the case of the middle school student, the cognitive empathy has a higher correlation with altruistic behavior, and in the case of the high school student, the emotional empathy has a higher correlation with altruistic behavior than cognitive empathy.
