The purpose of this study is to explore how the five types of ego-state in Egogram and psychological hardiness work in job satisfaction and psychological stability. By the means of Egogram of exchange analysis, the studies on the improvement of personal relation, communication and the attitude toward life have been so far carried out. In this study, the ego-state of Egogram is divided into five sub-factors: critical parents(CP), nurturing parents(NP), adult(A), free child(FC), and adaptive child(AC). As for psychological hardiness, it is classified into three factors such as commitment, control and challenge whereas job satisfaction eight sub-factors, composed of pay, the leadership of senior official, personal relationship, business, promotion, education training, welfare and total job satisfaction. With this, psychological stability can be divided into the positive emotion and the negative emotion.
Research questions of this study are as follows:
1. How are the 5 sub-factors of Egogram related to the job satisfaction?
2. How are the 3 sub-factors of psychological hardiness related to the job satisfaction?
3. How are the 5 sub-factors of Egogram related to the psychological stability?
4. How is the psychological hardiness related to the psychological stability?
In this study, 204 employees who work at private colleges answered the questionnaire. On the basis of the survey, the following result can be led to:
First, the ego-state of nurturing parents positively correlates with the leadership of senior official, personal relationship, business, promotion and education training: the stronger the ego-state of nurturing parents, the higher the job satisfaction.
Second, considering how psychological hardiness has an influence on job satisfaction, and vice versa, it is noticeable that such elements as are the leadership of an senior officer, personal relationship and business total job satisfaction have a positive reliance upon the commitment. On one hand, the survey indicates that the challenge negatively correlates with the leadership of senior official and business. In brief, the higher the commitment, the higher the job satisfaction whereas the more the challenge, the less the senior officer's leadership and business. It might be said to be true that this phenomenon is ascribed to the fact that a college is a non-profit-organization. Therefore, the result of the study would be totally different if the employees who work for a profit-making organization were the subject of the questionnaire.
Third, having the relation between the Egogram and psychological stability in mind, the ego-state of adult(A) affirmatively correlates with the positive emotion; so do the ego of critical parents(CP), free child(FC), and adaptive child(AC) with negative emotion. On the other hand, the ego of nurturing parents(NP) and adult(A), and negative emotion have not so affirmative correlation with each other. In other words, the stronger the ego of adult(A), the stronger the positive emotion. Also, the stronger critical parents(CP), free child(FC), and adaptive child(AC) are aware of their sense of ego, the stronger they sense negative. The stronger the ego of nurturing parents(NP), the weaker the negative emotion.
Fourth, based on the study of the relation between the psychological hardiness and the psychological stability, commitment and control show the affirmative reaction to the positive emotion with having the negative reaction to the negative one. That is to say, the strong commitment and control help to enhance the positive emotion in the self rather than the negative.
This study is to ascertain whether the types of personality and psychological hardiness could be helpful to those who work at a private college in the aspect of job satisfaction and psychological stability. With the result through the study, it is expected to offer the primary data necessary to the research and development of the program which can maximize the job satisfaction of the employees at private colleges.
