다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to deal with the relations of sports-related movies and female sports, as well as their symbolic implications and ideology, without theoretical foundations and methodological applications have being conducted.
This study want to introduce the discussions, which has been overlooked in understanding contemporary movies, about the images of female sports and sexual discrimination in the sports.
This study conducts the text analyses to find out the images of female sports and ideology in movies. The texts are 'A League of Their own,' 'Eddie,' and 'Girlfight'.
Todorov's narrative analytical method among the symbolic analytical methods, scene-settings and character-analytical methods have been used in this study.
The point of Todorov's theory involves conflict in the change in the process form equilibrium to disproportion and to re-equilibrium. The initial equilibrium is reduced to disproportion by contrasting forces, and the disproportion moves to the new equilibrium through resolving conflict. Character-analytical methods devide into the two methods : realistic analyses of individual and psychological interpretation and structural analyses of social and political interpretation
The images of female sports in the texts are baseball, basketbal1 and boxing, which have been exclusive to males. The plots of the movies put low social values on the physical activities, on top of it, the subject of the representation of female sports is not conflicting characters but female sports of challenge and conquest. Therefore theses movies produce the paradoxes that feeble female characters are born again as strong male images through sports under patriarchal ideology. These-created images do consolidate the male chauvinism: sports activities are not the activities of establishing female identity and active activities.
In conclusion, theses movies represent the images of female sports as being under control, dependence, lacking self-direction and individuals through the control ideology of American social and cultural values, consolidating these ideologies of patriarchal dominance, commercialism, gamesmanship, nationalism, etc.
