Fathers who live in Chungju city and have children attending kindergarten were selected for this study.
The aim of this study is to see the percept of father's role and educational program, and the degree to which they really perform their roles.
The study questions set for this study are as follows :
1. How do they recognize their role as fathers ?
2. How do they practice their role ?
3. How do they experience and recognize the educational program for fathers ?
The research subjects for this study were 362 fathers who have children attending kindergarten. The questionnaires developed by the researcher based on the review of the literature used for this study. The data was processed by SPSS and was analyzed according to variations of father's age, academic background, occupation, monthly income, and religeon by one-way ANOVA.
The result of this survey was summarized as follows :
1. The recognition of father's role according to variables-
1) In the recognition of father's role by age, there is no meaningful difference.
2) In the recognition of father's role by academic back-ground, fathers with academic background of over graduate school show a meaningful difference in the role of answerring the children's questions, and helpping the value clarification and understanding social tradition, helpping the understanding their own emotion and sex, and reading books for understanding children and for adaptting their to the change society.
3) In the recognition of father's role by occupation, fathers with professional occupation show a meaningful difference in the role of answerring the children's questions, and helpping the understanding their own emotion and sex; fathers with managerial occupation in the role of helpping the value clarification and the Understanding social tradition; fathers with unskilled job in the role of teaching the way how to buy necessaries.
4) In the recognition of father's role by monthly income, fathers earning less than 400,000 won a month show a meaningful difference in the role of teaching the way how to buy necessaries.
5) In the recognition of father's role by religeon, Buddhist fathers show a meaningful difference in the role of helpping the value clarification and understanding social tradition.
2. The real performance of father's role according to variables -
1) In the real performance of father's role by age, fathers who are 31 - 35 years old show a meaningful difference in the role of spending the holiday with their family.
2) In the real performance of father's role by academic background, there is no meaningful difference.
3) In the real performance of father's role by occupation, there is no meaningful difference.
4) In the real performance of father's role by a monthly income of home, fathers earning 610,000 - 800,000 won a month show a meaningful difference in the role of expressing love and concern: fathers earning more than 1,010,000 won in the role of spending the holiday with their family.
5) In the real performance of father's role by religeon, Buddhist fathers show a meaningful difference in the role of telling the children a story of great men.
3. The recognition and experience of the educational program for fathers are as follows :
Fathers had some experience of having been received parent education, and recognized parent education as a part of fosterring young children. They showed opinions that they would attend the parents meeting within the limit of not being disturbed their. works. Fathers recognized that it would be necessary to acquire children education because it was a part and parcel to bring up their children.
