한국전통 창살문양을 응용한 호텔 유니폼 디자인 개발 = (A) Study on Development of a Hotel Uniform applying the Korean Traditional Window Patterns

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 '2002 한·일 월드컵'이나 대규모의 국제적 행사로 인한 우리나라의 국제적 지위 향상과 국내의 호텔의 중요성을 인식하고 호텔 종업원의 유니폼 개발에 있어서 전통문양을 응용하여 우리문화의 우수성을 보여주며 세계시장에서 차별화 될 수 있는 유니폼을 디자인·개발 하고자 하였다.
국내의 작가들에 의해서도 전통문화가 디자인의 소재로 이용되는데 전통문양의 중 고유의 정서가 담긴 창살문양을 선택하여 유니폼에 응용하기 위한 방안으로 문헌과 현장 조사를 통하여 가능성을 작품으로 제시하고자 하였다. 호텔유니폼에 있어서 창살문양의 응용가능성을 알아보고자 먼저 국내 호텔종업원의 유니폼에 대한 실태조사 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 각 호텔마다 유니폼의 형태에는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 국내 호텔의 경우 입는 사람과 주문하는 사람이 다르며 업체를 통하여 유니폼을 채택하고 있어 공간과의 조화나 업종의 특수성이 많이 고려되지 않았다.
둘째, 국내의 타 호텔과 비교해 볼 때 독자적인 이미지를 잘 나타내지 못하고 있었다. 색상도 무채색 계통으로 편중되어 있으며 포인트 마저 비슷한 색상으로 되어 있었다. 마크나 호텔의 외관, 전체적인 색상 등의 차별화 된 이미지를 만들 수 있음에도 잘 표현되지 못하였다.
셋째, 우리 고유의 정서를 나타내지 못하고 있었다. 국내의 특급 호텔은 경우 대기업이 운영하던지 외국기업의 체인 형태의 호텔이 주류를 이루고 있으므로 그 나라의 고유한 특성을 살리기보다는 현대복식을 그대로 받아들이고 있다. 국내의 호텔은 한식당을 제외하고는 모든 업종이 한국을 알릴 수 있는 요소가 결여되었다.
이와 같이 본 연구를 통해서 밝혀진 문제점을 토대로 전통문양의 현대적 활용을 타진해 보고 유니폼을 개발하는데 있어서 실제적으로 의상을 제작 하였으며 CAD system을 통하여 문양을 디자인하여 simulation을 통해 의사에 도입효과를 알아보았다. 디자인 개발에 있어서 simulation작업을 이용한 결과 유니폼 제작시 기업의 의사를 충분히 반영한 디자인을 함으로 실패의 가능성을 줄일 수 있고 시간적, 경제적 절약의 효과를 가져올 수 있었다.
의상의 제작은 현관을 중심으로 고객과의 직접적인 접촉이 많은 직종으로 프론트 데스크의 남자와 여자, 도어 맨과 도어 걸, 벨 맨과 룸 서비스의 유니 폼에 창살문양을 응용하여 디자인하였다 또한 CAD system을 이용하여 자유문양, 사방연속문양, Bader문양으로 디자인하여 양식당 종업원, 벨 맨, 웨이츄레스와 룸메이트의 유니폼에 각각 simulation 하였다. 의상을 제작하여 문양을 디자인하여 본 결과 창살문양은 수직, 수평, 사선 안에서 문양이 이루어지므로 창살문양의 조형성이 현대복식인 유니폼에 잘 적용되는 것을 알 수 있었다.
이와 같이 본 연구에서는 고유정서인 창살문양을 표현하는 수단으로 호텔유니폼을 선택하여 유니폼이라는 현대복식에 한국전통의 미의 적용가능성을 제시하고자 하였다. 호텔 외의 장소와 업종에서도 전통의 미를 잘 적용한다면 세계시장에서의 한국 유니폼이 성공 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Owing to 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan and other large-scale international events, our nation's international status is improving, while domestic hotels draw more attention. Under such circumstances, this study was aimed at developing a uniform for hotel employees applying our traditional patterns in order to publicize our excellent culture and differentiate the hotel services in the world hotel market.
Many domestic authors refer to our traditional culture for their design sources. In this study, the traditional window patterns were selected to be applied to the hotel uniform. To this end, relevant literature was reviewed, and thereupon, a field survey was conducted to explore the possibility of applying the window patterns to the hotel uniform. The results of the survey can be summed up as follows;
First, there was little difference of the uniform styles among hotels. Most of the domestic hotels place orders with the apparel manufactures for their employees' uniforms. Hence, harmony with the space or. Unique conditions of hotels were not much taken into consideration.
Second, the current uniforms did not represent hotels' unique images. Most of the colors for the uniforms and even their points were achromatic colors. Marks, hotel Images and colors were not differentiated among hotels.
Third, our traditional sentiments were not reflected in the hotel uniforms. Particularly in case of the five star hotels operated by conglomerates or as chain of foreign hotels, the modern uniforms were worn regardless of the locality. Except for the Korean restaurants, all the hotel facilities did not adopt the uniforms for their employees which could publicize nation's culture.
Based on the above problems identified, the possibility of applying the traditional patterns in a modernistic way was explored, and thereupon, hotel uniform models were developed using the CAD system. The patterns developed were simulated to review their effects. As a result, it was confirmed that it would be necessary to reflect employees' opinions fully in uniform designs to reduce the possibility of failures and save time and money.
With such basic conceptions in mind, the researcher proceeded to design the uniforms applying the traditional window patterns for such hotel employees in more contact with their customers as front desk men and women, door men and girls, bell men and room service men. In this process, the CAD system was used to design free patterns, all-out continuous patterns and border patterns and thereby, simulate them for the uniforms for Western restaurant employees, bell men, waitresses and room mates. As a result, it was found that since the window patterns were formed within vertical, horizontal and oblique lines, the traditional window pattern forms matched well the modern hotel uniforms.
As discussed above, this study attempted to apply the Korean traditional aesthetics of window patterns to the modern hotel uniforms. Lastly, it is expected that the Korean style uniforms would be successful in the world market, if our traditional aesthetics should be applied to the uniforms for other businesses than hotel.
