The purpose of this study is to investigate the relations of the child abuse of parents perceived by the adolescent and juvenile delinquency, to find out negative aspects that the adolescents have because of their parents' abusive rearing attitude, and to prevent their delinquent behaviors.
The sampling subjects for this study are 258 ordinary adolescents of middle and high school in Daegu and 84 delinquents who are probated in Daegu Probation Office. Instruments used for this study are physical abuse, verbal abuse and juvenile delinquency scale.
For the datum analysis, Factor analysis, Frequency analysis, t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, Stepwise Multiple Regression and Cronbach' α for reliability are conducted.
The major results of this study are summarized as followings :
First, both the ordinary and the probated adolescents have experienced light physical abuse as the type of physical punishments from their parents ; for both two groups, the abuse from father is more often than that from mother ; and the physical abuse from father shows significant differences between the two groups.
Second, generally the adolescences get more verbal abuse rather than the physical one. The contemptuous verbal abuse is the most outstanding, which make them feel disgraceful or humiliated. And from their both parents the adolescences on probation get more verbal abuse than the ordinary adolescences.
In the general patterns of the delinquencies of both adolescence groups, general status delinquency takes up the highest rate, and then the social order, the property, the sexual delinquency, in this sequence, takes the next highest rates.
Third, in the correlations between the physical and verbal abuse, which are inflicted on the ordinary and the probated adolescences, and the delinquencies, for both cases, the parental physical abuse and the juvenile delinquencies have a significantly positive correlation.
The parental verbal abuse shows the difference between the two groups ; in the case of the ordinary one, the verbal abuse from both parents has a statistically positive correlation with the juvenile delinquency ; in the case of ones on probation, only the paternal abuse has a significantly positive correlation with the delinquency.
Fourth, in the interrelated influences between the juvenile delinquency and the related causes, the ordinary adolescences are affected the most, in this sequence, by the maternal threat and hostile verbal abuse, the parental rejective verbal abuse, and their ages.
This study has its significance in that this brings out the child abuse's negative influences on the juvenile delinquencies by comparing the abuse of parents between the ordinary adolescences being in middle and high schools and the delinquent ones on probation of the laws. The verbal abuse has stronger influences than the physical one in the relations between the abuse and the delinquencies ; and of parents, especially the father' attitudes of bringing up have considerable correlations with the juvenile delinquencies. These results give meaningfulness to this study, too, in that they offers the directions for the study on adolescence abuse, the materials that, in managing home, the recognition of the parenting role and the education of the parents need for prevention of the juvenile delinquency, and the necessity of making home environments for the prevention of the second offenses.
