      The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of emotional intelligence training program on emotional quotient and self-esteem.
      The subjects for this study were second grade students in an elementary school in Yeongcheon, Gyeongbuk, and 45 students selected by their academic perfornance and gender, divided into experimental group, control group I and control group II(15 students per each group). For experimental group, Emotional Intelligence Training Program was performed at 22 times for 60-70 minutes, and for control group I, individual study was done for supplement, and control group II was let go after class. The effects of emotional intelligence training program were examined on the basis of pre-test and post test scores by emotional quotient test and Self-Perception Profile for Children.
      The major findings of this study were as follows;
      First, emotional intelligence training program was effective on increase of general emotional quotient. Experimental group showed higher emotional quotient than that of control group I and control group II.
      Second, emotional intelligence training program showed significant increse on emotional recognition and empathy which are subarea of emotional intelligence, but showed no significant increase on emotional expression and emotional regulation.
      Third, emotional intelligence training program showed no significant increase on scholastic competence, social acceptance, athletic competence, physical appearance, behavioral conduct, and global self-worth.
      In this study, emotional intelligence training program was effective on increase of emotional quotient of children, therefore, if we have continuous emotional intelligence training by developing emotional intelligence training program which is useful for curriculum in educational chart, it would be effective to increase their emotional intelligence and personality.
