Not much studies of sexual attitude and behaviour have been performed in Korean unmarried men at their twenties. Therefore we studied from a survey to identify their characteristics of sexual attitude and behavior.
Unmarried young men at their twenties in National anonymous Academy were asked to participate in a survey concerning their sexual behaviour and attitude before sexual education curriculum. Statistical analysis was performed by SAS package.
The mean age of respondents was 26 years. Seventy-two percent of 380 respondents showed generous attitude toward premarital and extramarital sexual intercourse. This finding showed a significant difference according to existence of religion(p=0.019), amount of spending money(p=0.005), existence of sexual experience(p=0.0001). In sexual experience group(84%), the average age of first intercourse was 20.6 years. Prostitute was first intercourse partner in 31%. Sexually transmitted disease was experienced in 11%. Though socially prohibited, pornography was experienced by all except one respondent. Average age of first contact with pornography was 17 years. The main source of sexual information was adult magazine(74%) and friends(78%). Twenty-five percent of respondents had the feeling that their penile size was very or relatively small during flaccid state, but only 3% of respondents considered so during erect state. About twelve percent of respondents considered that they had premature ejaculation. Circumcision was performed in 82% and the mean age of circumcision was twenty. Penile foreign body was inserted in 2 respondents performed by their friends.
The behaviour and attitude of Korean unmarried young men toward sexuality seems to be liberal despite relatively strict public morality. Adequate and systematic social educational program about sexuality should be provided to unmarried men after more large, randomized survey.
