The purposes of this study are to investigate the misconceptions of the definition of trigonometric function and to analyze errors in problem-solving processes of trigonometric function.
For these purpose, these research questions were established as follows;
1) What kind of misconceptions about the definition of trigonometric function do the high school students have?
2) What kind of errors are there in the process of problems-solving of trigonometric function?
The subjects for this study were selected from a high school in Taejon; 88 Students(2nd grade students) for misconceptions and error analysis. The test instrument is 9 items consisting of 8 items for analyzing problem solving patterns of trigonometric function and 1 item for investigating students' misconception on definition of trigonometric function.
The results of this study are as follow;
First, only 18.19% of students understand the definition of trigonometric function, and 20.45% of students have incorrect concept of trigonometric function, others(61.36%) have little concept on trigonometric function.
Second, the types of errors are as follows ; errors caused by technical errors(24.08%), misused data or misinterpreted language(4.05%), misapplication of theorems of definitions(53.93%), and ambiguity of errors(17.93%).
