In the whole lifetime, elementary school children have the most remarkable development and the most effective period physically and mentally, that is, this time is very important period for a physical growth and mental maturity, so children must be recognized the importance of physical strength, therefore the study finds how rope-skipping effects the improvement of the elementary school students' physical strength and the purpose of the study is to give a basic data in order to develop children's physical strength in an educational field.
To achieve the aim of this study, two hypothesis set,
● After doing eight weeks' rope-skipping, there will be the difference of physical shape between an experimental group and a comparative group.
● After doing eight weeks' rope-skipping, there will be the difference of physical strength between an experimental group and a comparative group.
A survey was conducted at M elementary school, Jinan, Chollabukdo. Forty children(twenty boys and twenty girls)unexperienced of excercise were randomly selected from fifth grade. After measuring physical traits, firstly the training program planned for an experimental group, and then pre-training was done, next pre-test, afterwards for eight weeks, the circumference of the chest, the upper arm, the abdomen, the hip, the thigh's at a part of physique's changes, exolositv muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, agility, balance's changes were tested through training at a part of physical strength, the data using SPSS/pc+8.0's low grade program makes each group's pre and post training's average value, the standard deviation, to find pre and post-training's significant level, dependent and independent T-test inspection were treated, inspection was done by significant level α=.05.
The main findings are as followings:
1. The effect of rope-skipping for physique, there is no meaningful difference for boys, but the study finds that girls have effect on the circumference of the chest, the abdomen, and the upper arm decrease. So, rope-skipping has positive effect on the circumference of the chest, the abdomen, and the upper arm decrease for the elementary school girls.
2. The effect of rope-skipping for physical strength, it brings agility, exolosity muscular strength, balance's improvement, and therefore, skipping-rope gives positive effects on physical strength's development for the elementary school students.
The conclusion through the study is despite of practicing skipping-rope in a short term, it gives effect on physical strength's growth. Some implications for skipping-rope based on the study are as followings:
1. This study is planned for the limited period (only eight weeks), but it needs that the effect of skipping-rope must be proved through more than eight weeks' training term.
2. The study will be meaningful to examine closely the relations between physical strength's variation cause by doing skipping-rope and children's right humanity development's.
