The purpose of this study is to identify the relationships between the young children's interests in fairy tale reading and mother's reading teaching method.
Through the literature review, the following research questions were established.
First, were there any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the frequency that mothers read books to their children at home?
Second, were there any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the methods in which mothers read books to their children at home?
Third, were there any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the quantity of books to have at home?
Fourth, were there any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the time to read books for the first time?
In order to identify some evidences for five problems, 134 mothers and young children were selected by a careful survey. 134 mothers were examined the test of the family atmosphere factors. 82 young children who had high reading interests and 52 young children who had low reading interests were selected after the test of reading interests.
Data obtained from the test was analyzed by the use of chi-square (x²) test.
The conclusions can be summarized as follows :
First, there were any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the frequency that mothers read books to their children at home.
Second, there were any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the methods in which mothers read books to their children at home.
Third, there were any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the quantity of books to have at home.
Fourth, there were any significant differences between the young children who had high reading interests and those who had low reading interests in the time to read books for the first time.
As the above result, we should be to maximize the positive effects due to mother's reading teaching method and to devise alternative methods which can improve the educational effects.
For the more systematic study for the influence of mother's reading teaching method upon the young children's reading domain, the further study of this kind will be needed.
