This study examined the effects of reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring in class on unadaptive behaviors of two first graders with ADHD(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) attending S-Primary School in Sihung city, Kyonggi Province.
To prove the effects of reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring on the improvement of two students' unadaptive behaviors in sitting, placing gaze and making sound in Korean class the reversal design was used as a study design and the study period was from April 22 to July 13, 2002 except national holidays and school special activities' days.
Two subjects' behaviors in the 2nd class hour of Korean class were recorded on video tape and partial interval recording was used in 40 minutes at 60 seconds intervals respectively. The number of unadaptive behaviors and the average number were presented in the talbes and pictures.
The conclusions are as follows;
First, reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring was effective on decreasing unadaptive behaviors in sitting. The number of unadaptive behaviors in student K and B's sitting for the period measured reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring decreased than the period of base line. Especially, student B showed the greatest decrease in sitting than any other unadaptive behaviors. The ratio of a subjects's unadaptive behaviiors' decrease appeared different according to behavior types.
Second, reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring had an effect on decreasing unadaptive behaviors in placing gaze. The number of unadaptive behaviors in student K and B's placing gaze for the period measured reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring decreased than the period of base line. Especially, student K who showed unadaptive behaviors more frequently than student B on I stage displayed the greatest decrease in placing gaze after measured reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring. At a harvest measurement two weeks later, the decrease effect continued. This showed that even in the case of the same unadaptive behaviors, the decrease degree appeared different according to each subject.
Third, reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring made an effect on decreasing unadaptive behaviors in making sound. The number of unadaptive behaviors in student K and B's making sound for the period measured reinforcement subsequent to self-monitoring decreased than the period of base line.
