      The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of group art therapy through the media of Korean painting on the stress of the youth. The design of the study was pretest - posttest control group design research. The subjects were 20 stressed middle school in 3rd grade who went to the young men's association of S church in Daegu. Subjects were divided into two groups : 10 control group and 10 experimental group.
      A program comprised of 12 sessions(one times a week) group art therapy using the media of Korean painting was administered to the experimental group. The evaluation tool for the present study was the stress level test used by Jung Hee-Young(2001).
      To analyze this, pretest - posstest control group design research was put in operation. Pared t-test was put in operation for each analyzis of the questins.
      The major findings of the present study can be summarized as follows :
      First, to explore how group art therapy through the media of korean painting had an effect on the stress and low rank factor(school life stress, personal relationship stress, self-problem stress, environment problem stress, domestic problem stress) on the stress of the youth.
      Second, to explore how group art therapy through the media of korean painting had an effect on low rank factor(school life stress, personal relationship stress, self-problem stress, environment problem stress, domestic problem stress) of the stress questions.
      The resuls of this study were as follows :
      First, group art therapy through the media of korean painting lessened the stress of the youth, also diminished the stress of the school life, personal relationship, self-problem, problem of environment, domestic problem.
      Second, group art therapy through the media of korean painting lessened study questions of school life stress, friend relationship questions of personal relationship stress, body·physiological and character questions of self-problem stress, society·physics questions of environment problem stress, and parents-son questions of domestic problem stress. The stress of the youth through 17 questions was all diminished. Especially, the stress of domestic problem was remarkably decreased.
      In shor, group are therapy through a media of Korean painting employed in this study seemed to have beneficial effect on the stress of the youth.
