The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of computer assisted instruction to solving abilities for Maths word problems for the learning disabled children.
The subjects of this study were two learning disabled children in the fourth grade in K elementary school in Gyeongbuk, and test tools are KEDO-WISC intelligence test, study baseline functional test, Maths class program and Maths word problems test.
This experiment was done from May 1 to May 6, 2002 for baseline test, and from May 13 to June 17, 2002 total 16 times for computer assisted instruction, and maintaining test was each three times from one week late after the finish of the experiment and it was one time per week total three times.
And, the results were gotten as follows;
First, the children with learning disability who had studied traditional learning method only transferred from their teachers had increased solving technique than when they studied programs mutually reactive, repeated and included even cognitive factors. And when we regard theses solving techniques acquired through these process by maintaining test, it was regarded that it was better to maintain longer for generalization than only with traditional teaching method.
Second, according to the studying attitude by comperter assisted instruction, computer assisted instruction gave positive effect to their studying attitude to solve mathematic problems, and as a whole, they showed higher and longer attention.
It is somewhat difficult to generalize this result because the subjects of this computer assisted instruction are only two students in one elementary school where I work for and we need to adapt computer assisted instruction to the other subjects as well.
