In order to examine the objective forecast of frost in Andong, various meteorological elements in Andong from January 1991 to April 2001 are analyzed and the analyzed results are summarized as follows:
1. The frost generally observed from late October and to early April. Also, there are cases with the first frost in early October and the final frost in mid April during the analysis period.
2. The average number of frost-free day is 198 days with 179 days in 1995 for the shortest case and 221 days in 1999 for the longest one.
3. The number of days of frost on the monthly scale shows the maximum (22.2 days) in December and minimum( 16.5 days) in November.
4. The formation of frost is largely influenced by minimum temperature compared to other meteorological elements for the first frost in late Autumn and the final frost in Spring.
5. The wind speed effect on the formation of frost is more pronounced in winter than in spring or autumn, while the cloud amount on that is reverse.
6. The conditions for the formation of frost are that the difference in grass minimum temperature between with and without frost months is at least larger than 1.6℃, and the diurnal temperature range meaning the difference between maximum temperature and minimum temperature in a day is at least larger than 10℃.
7. The synoptic weather patterns associated with the formation of frost are classified into 8 patterns. The frequencies for each synoptic pattern appear in the anchored High (23.7%), the Siberian High (17.5%), and the transformed Siberian High (16%).
