This research tried to find the tendency of elementary school students' residential movement in Gyeongsan City, located in nearby Daegu City, and to examine major factors affecting the elementary school students' residential movement. For fulfilling this purpose, we took the sample survey of parents who have children ranging from 5th to 6th grade of elementary school. In order to explain the reasons of the residential movement of the 5-6th elementary students' families in Gyeongsan City, we considered several independent variables such as parent's job, education level, income, children's grade, the number of owned cars, experience of extra study, the inclination of moving related to going to middle school.
According to this research, 61.6% of people who were questioned about whether they will move to big city in terms of going to good school in big cities or not, said “No”, and 38.4% said “Yes”.
Among the people who said “No”, the main reasons they mentioned are persons' or families’ social activity(39.6%), the good living condition(27.5%), the difficulty of selling and buying a house(21.2%), and good facilities and schools in the present town(11.7%). This trend is largely due to the difficulties of escaping their hometown such as supporting parents, workplace, and house problem, and so on.
Furthermore, we could guess the condition of the educational environment of Gyeongsan City, from the fact that only 11.7% of respondents said they don't want to move to somewhere because of the good facilities and good school system in this area. Also, we looked over the respondents who said they don't want to move, according to parent's job, income, mother's education level, and the children's grade, and found that the people who are working in the field of agriculture or specific area had a higher rate not to move to big city than other job do. Thus, we could see the close relationship between the regional and social aspects in Gyeongsann City.
And, in other words, we could see the correlation of the respondents who have tendency to move the big cities in terms of going to advanced school.
Fist of all, the higher the parents income is, the more possibility of going to big city they have.
In the aspect of job, non-agricultural workers have a more tendency to go to big city to enter good school.
Moreover, the higher the level of parent's education level are, the more tendency of going to big city they have.
Among the respondents who have tendency to go to big city, people who own more cars have more possibility to move to big city. As you can see here, it is found that there is a relationship between the number of owned cars and the tendency of moving to big city.
Among the people having tendency to move, 40.3% of respondents have experiences of extra study, and 22.7% of them don't. Therefore, it is found that there are more possibilities to those who have experienced the extra study to move to big cities. And, the better grade children get, the higher rate of moving to big city is. Also, it comes out that the better grade, the more they have experienced extra study. Thus, from this research, we found that there is a close relationship between grade, extra study, and tendency of moving to big city.
