입체조형 활동의 미술치료적효과에 관한 고찰 : 정신지체 아동을 중심으로 = A Study on the Effect of the three-dimensional Activity in Art Therapy:focuse in children with mental retardation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

정신지체 아동에게 있어 미술치료는 다양한 매체와 기법을 사용함으로써 그들에게 인지적, 감각·운동적, 사회·정서적인 발달을 도와줄 수 있다. 그러므로, 정신지체 아동의 발달을 촉진하고 잠재력을 부각시켜 환경에 대한 인식을 발달시키기 위해서는 미술치료에서 사용하는 매체나 기법에 대한 다양한 연구가 이루어져야 한다.
따라서 본 연구는 정신지체 아동들이 입체조형 활동을 통해서 경험할 수 있는 다양한 미술치료적인 효과에 대해 알아보고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 특히 입체조형이 갖는 다양한 매체와 기법이 정신지체 아동들에게 부족한 인지적, 감각·운동적, 사회·정서적 발달에 미치는 영향과 그 효과에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 그리고 입체조형 활동 속에서 치료실의 환경과 치료사는 어떤 역할을 하고 있는지에 대해서도 살펴볼 것이며 이러한 연구들은 문헌연구를 통해 진행되어졌다.
그에 따른 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 인지적 영역에서 효과를 살펴보면, 입체조형 활동의 다양한 매체와 기법은 정신지체 아동에게 공간지각능력을 기르고 시 지각 발달, 언어발달, 수 개념 발달에도 효과를 가진다. 또한 정신지체 아동에게 있어 입체조형 활동은 구체적인 이미 지로 표현할 수 있는 장을 제공함으로써 그들이 모호하게 생각하는 형태를 구체적으로 표현할 수 있게 한다.
둘째, 감각 운동적 영역에서의 미술치료적 효과에 대해서 살펴보면, 입체조형 활동에서 사용되어지는 다양한 매체는 각기 다른 특성과 질감을 가지고 있다. 따라서 매체를 통해 다양한 질감을 경험함으로써 감각발달에 도움을 준다. 또한 도구의 사용법이 다양하고 작업 활동 범위가 넓어 정신지체 아동들의 대 소근육 발달과 신체조절 능력을 향상시킨다. 그리고 활동의 결과물인 입체조형 작품은 교구로서의 응용도 가능하다.
셋째, 사회 정서적 영역에서의 미술치료적 효과에 대해서 살펴보면, 입체 조형활동에서 다양한 매체와 기법을 통한 풍부한 경험은 정신지체 아동에게 사회에서 적절한 행동을 하도록 하고 자긍심을 높여 준다. 그리고 다양한 재료 사용으로 심상표현이 자유롭기 때문에 정서순화에도 도움을 주며 창의력을 향상시키는데 도움을 준다. 뿐만 아니라 입체조형작품은 중간대상물로서의 기능을 하고 그들의 고립상태에서 끌어낼 수 있는 성공적인 방법이 된다.
넷째, 입체조형활동에서 미술치료실은 작업이 용이한 테이블과 재료와 용구를 보관하는 정리장, 완성된 작품을 보관할 수 있는 공간, 점토작업을 할 수 있는 공간, 설치작업을 위한 공간이 필요하다. 그리고, 입체조형 활동에서 치료사의 역할은 정신지체 아동의 특성을 알고 있어야 하고 동역자이자 기술보조자가 되어야 하며 매체에 대한 특성을 잘 파악하고 정신지체 아동과 작품을 가지고 놀이에 동참할 수 있어야 한다.
이와 같이 미술치료에 있어 입체조형활동은 정신지체 아동의 인지적, 감각·운동적, 사회·정서적인 영역의 발달에 중요한 치료적 효과를 가진다. 그럼에도 불구하고 입체조형 활동에 대한 연구물이 미미한 상태이며 구체적인 사례를 통한 연구물이 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구를 토대로 입체조형 활동에 대한 미술치료적 관심이 증대되고 보다 많은 연구들이 이루어지길 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Art Therapy for children with mental retardation helps their mental, sensuous and motional, social and emotional developments by using various medias and techniques, which must be studied in order to develop their consciousness of the circumstances by raising the potential energy and stimulating their development.
Thus, this study is to look into the effect of Art Therapy, which the children with mental retardation can have various experiences in three-dimensional activities, in particular, and the effect of various medias and techniques that the activity has, on their physical, mental, social and emotional development. The atmosphere of the Art Therapy room and the art therapist in the three-dimensional activity were studied, as well. These researches were done by documentary records.
The results are as follows.
Firstly, for the effect of Art Therapy in the mental domain, various medias and techniques in three-dimensional activity allowed them to grow the ability in space perception and to develop their vision, perception, language, and number. The three-dimensional activity for the mentally handicapped children provided them with a space where they can express the shape that they think vaguely with a particular image.
Secondly, for the effect of three-dimensional in the sensuous and motional area, various medias used in the three-dimensional activity have each different characteristic and sense of touch, which enables them to experience and improve their sense development. Because the use of instruments is very diversified and the range of the activity gets larger, the development of their muscles and the capability of physical control improved. The works of three-dimensional art can be used as teaching tools.
Thirdly, for the effect of Art Therapy in the social and emotional domain, the experience through various medias and techniques in the three-dimensional activity allows the children with mental retardation to behave themselves in society and increase their self-praise. It also helps to refine their emotion and improve creativity. Moreover, the works of three-dimensional art function as an intermediate, which brings them out from the isolated state.
Lastly, for the three-dimensional activity, comfortable tables, filing cabinets where all materials are kept safe, spaces where finished products are kept, the clay work and set-up work can be done are needed in the therapy room. The roles of an art therapist in the activity is to notice each characteristic, to work as a technical assistant and a partner, to participate in the play with the children with mental retardation.
Consequently, the three-dimensional activity in Art Therapy gives them successful effect on the mental, sensuous and motional, social and emotional developments. However, the condition of research materials for the three-dimensional activity is still poor and the specific research materials are deficient. I hope the interest in the three-dimensional activity in Art Therapy increases and many researches relevant to this will be accomplished.
