This study is to investigate that Art Therapy based on Reality Therapy affects overweight, body image, and self-esteem. Being divided into experimental group and comparative group, and tested once a week, overweight, body image, and self-esteem were compared before and after Art Therapy program based on Reality Therapy using a pretest-post test control group design.
The subjects are twenty schoolgirls in H coeducational high school located in M-City and they are in the first grade. They voluntarily take part in this program after listening its need. Ten of them were in experimental group and the others are in comparative group each.
This research combines Reality Therapy with Art Therapy. It would like to decrease overweight, and develop body image and self-esteem of girls' high school students. This Art Therapy program based on Reality Therapy which is planned by the researcher is implemented six times for four weeks.
In analyzing materials, quality-analysis is implemented over computer- statistics-process and programing-process by means of SPSS 10.00 .
Here come the results of this study.
1. The prior-average of overwight in experimental group was 15.3, the post-average decreased by 11.2, and the average also became to decrease by 11.1 after this therapy. This result is statistically semantic (p<0.01).
2. The average of body image scale in experimental group increased from 2.8 to 3.2 and it showed semantic evidence(p<0.05). Being changed from 2.8 to 2.7, the average in comparative group showed little semantic difference.
3. The average of semantic differential method in experimental group semantically increased form 3.8 to 4.2(p<0.01). Being changed 3.4 to 3.5, the average in comparative group showed little semantic difference.
4. The prior and post average of self-esteem in experimental group increased from 3.4 to 3.7, but they weren't statistically semantic. Being changed from 3.0 to 2.9, the average in comparative group showed little semantic difference.
As conclusion, this program proved to effectively helps the high-school girls to decrease overweight, and develop body image.
Therefore this study would give help to the studies related to the program which plans to reduce schoolgirls' overweight. Completing this study, this study proposes that statistical verification and the result should be generalized, and this program could give help to other fields.
