This study is to investigate whether Mandala could give pride of potential energy to the women who have suffered domestic violence, and help them to find the meaning of life through Group Art Therapy applying Mandala, which they could experience tranquility and be in creative activity focusing on the harmony and balance which Mandala could give off.
The subject of this study is five women who have suffered domestic violence and lived in "G-shelter" located in Daegu-City. This Group Art Therapy has been took place twice a week, for one hundred minutes, and totally seventeen times.
Measuring apparatuses are Ego Identity Scale and Tree Test. These two apparatuses have been proceeded before and after Group Art Therapy to compare and analyse the effect of Group Art Therapy.
Here comes the result of this study First, the group members are absorbed in their inner inquiry drawing mandala, and express their suppressed emotion doing it several times.
The purpose of Mandala Art Therapy, desire-expression of self-unification, has been showed. They also have made harmony among themselves in teamwork. Through Art Therapy applying Mandala, the psychological characters of the women, lack of self-respect and sense of alienation from society, could be regained. As they come to have a positive thought and action, they could get their own identities and find potential creativity.
Second, in the case of Ego Identity Scale, personal relations have been developed by all the group members, target-intention, self-assertion, and self-existent consciousness have been developed by three members, stability and peculiarity have been developed by two members.
In the case of Tree Test, the pictures of tree after Group Art Therapy are more stable than before Group Art Therapy. That is to say stalks have become strong, roots become settled, and branches contained power, which show powerful accomplishment-consciousness.
According the above results, the women who have suffered domestic violence have developed their identity by and large, and established a positive self-image through Group Art Therapy applying Mandala.
