The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships among internet addiction, social support and stress in college students. The subjects used in this study included the 510 college students. They were administered self reported questionnaires such as the social support questionnaire, the stress questionnaire, the internet addiction questionnaire.
The research problem is as below :
1. How do the internet addiction, social support and the stress show the difference according to the use time of the internet and the connection places of the internet?
2. What is the relationship among the social support, stress and the internet addiction?
3. How far can the social support prove the internet addiction?
4. How far can the stress prove the internet addiction?
The following conclusions were drawn from the results examined in P<.05 significant level through Pearsons correlation, one-way ANOVA, and mulitiple regression analysis, using SPSS.
The results in the statistics are as follows :
First, the longer use time of the internet shows the higher internet addiction frequently. That also shows the highter stress. Second, in regard to relationship between the social support and the internet addiction is a positive correlation. However, the relationship between the stress and the internet addiction is a negative correlation. Third, the social support has little to do with the effect of the internet addiction. Fourth, the stress is the risk factor of the internet addiction. It showed that the group with higher stress indulged in the internet.
In conclusion, the group of the longer use time of the internet and the higher stress affect th internet addiction. However, the social support has noting to do with the internet addiction.
Lastly, the implication and limitation of this study, and need of further study are discussed.
