This research aims to examine the influence of facilitative communication between a mother and her high school daughter, the daughter's perceived family adaptability and cohesion, and her perceived satisfaction regarding her mother's working or non-working status on the daughter's maturity with regards to career attitude. The following research questions were formulated based on the study's objective:
1. Does facilitative communication between a mother and her high school daughter significantly influence the daughter's maturity with regards to career attitude?
2. Does the high school daughter's perceived family adaptability significantly influence her maturity with regards to career attitude?
3. Does the high school daughter's perceived family cohesion significantly influence her maturity with regards to career attitude?
4. Does the high school daughter's perceived satisfaction regarding her mother's working or non-working status significantly influence her maturity with regards to career attitude?
5. Do facilitative communication between mother and daughter, family adaptability and cohesion, and satisfaction regarding the mother‘s working or non-working status significantly influence the daughter's maturity with regards to career attitude?
In order to verify statistically the abovementioned research questions, experimental tools were made for each variable. Cluster sampling with stratification was conducted among high school girls in Seoul. A total of 670 questionnaire sheets were administered to 13 high schools for girls in December 2001. Only 501 sheets were used for data analysis, using SPSS 10.0 material analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, simple regression analysis, multiple regression analysis, and path analysis. The following results were obtained:
1. Facilitative communication between a mother and daughter significantly influences the daughter's maturity with regards to career attitude(F = 66.359, p < .001). In general, facilitative communication between a mother and her high school daughter had an R square of 28.6% with regards to the maturity of the daughter's career attitude.
2. The daughter's perceived family adaptability significantly influences a daughter's maturity with regards to her career attitude(F = 107.547, p < .001). In general, her family adaptability had an R square of 30.2% with regards to her maturity of career attitude.
3. The daughter's perceived family cohesion significantly influences the daughter's maturity with regards to her career attitude(F = 139.789, p < .001). In general, her family cohesion had an R square of 45.8% with regards to her maturity of career attitude.
4. The daughter's perceived satisfaction regarding her mother's working or non-working status significantly influences her maturity with regards to her career attitude(satisfaction of mother's working F = 37.716, p < .001; satisfaction of mother's non-working F = 10.880, p < .01). In general, the daughter's perceived satisfaction regarding her mother's working had an R square of 14.7% with regards to her maturity of career attitude. On the other hand, the daughter's perceived satisfaction regarding her mother's non-working had an R square of 4% with regards to her maturity of career attitude.
5. Independent variables such as facilitative communication, family adaptability, family cohesion, and satisfaction regarding mother's working or non-working significantly influence the daughter's maturity with regards to her career attitude(working mother's daughter group F = 76.408, p < .001; non-working mother's daughter group F = 45.317, p < .001). In general, the independent variables of the working mother's daughter group had an R square of 58.7% regarding the daughter's maturity of career attitude. On the other hand, the non-working daughters group had an R square of 41.5% regarding the daughter's maturity of career attitude.
