The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships among delinquent risk factors, protective factors and recidivism that affected juvenile delinquency. To do that, a survey on 872 delinquent juveniles has been conducted. They have been under the supervision of a juvenile protection and education institute in 17 different institutions in Korea.
For this purpose was investigated anxiety, depression, anti-sociality characteristics, attack, impulsiveness in risk factor and responsibility, planning, self-esteem, family support, peer support in protective factor.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, there was a statistics significance difference in depression, anti-sociality, impulsiveness, responsibility and self-esteem among the delinquent juveniles of different delinquency types and of different experience in drug abuse or runaway.
Second, There was a negative correlation between risk factors and protective factors of delinquent juveniles.
Third, recidivism was greatly influenced by the grade they began to be absent from school, the number they ran away from home, drug abuse experience, depression and anti-social characteristics in risk factors.
Fourth, recidivism was decreased by high self-esteem, the support of the family and teachers in protective factors.
