조선조 자수병풍에 대한 연구 = Study on the embroidery folding screen of Chosun dynasty

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Embroidery Crafts, one of the great traditional arts of our country have been developed and handed down mainly in the royal palace and later by the womans hands in the civil home.
Our ancestors were willing to lay embroidery on the various domestic acticles as well as the dress of woman and child.
Especially the folding screens made of embroidery patterns have been used to decorate the living room and to make up the formality of ceremonies.
The picture and patterns on embroidery screens represented the back ground of the custom and culture of that time as well as the longing wishes and hopes of the people.
The patterns of the embroidery screen consist of animals, plants, letters, fortune scenery, character and the others meaning patterns.
In these the flower and brids patterns were most popular and next came the patterns of the imortality and then longerity and happiness.
The works of embroidery screens prepared at the latter period of the Chosun dynasty could be found much easier than the earlier period and works of the earlier period of the Chosun dyuasty came across very rerely because the material fiber of these screens are diffcult in its safe keeping.
The ancient works of the embroidery screen preserved nowadays are the great arts of our traditional culture.
These are however gradually vanishing year by year the auther who is born, in this contry and have a concern about the traditional hand-crafted techniques and hope to preserve succeed and develop them, make this thesis wishing this arts further develop in the mordern hand crafted art.
