사회복지에 비춰진 영성적 접근에 대한 고찰

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대사회는 빈부의 격차, 사회적 불평등과 같은 상대적 박탈감의 가치혼란 현상이 심화되고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위한 일환으로 사회사업에 있어 인간의 존엄성과 가치를 확고히 구현하는 일이 필요하다. 그리고 그 역할은 사회복지 분야의 일선에서 움직이는 사회복지사의 직업적 소명의식과 정체성에 달려있다. 그러기 위해서 사회사업 분야에 영성적 접근이 요구된다. 인간의 본질적 성향에 접근할 수 있는 방법이 영성적 접근이기 때문이다. 그런데 우리나라 사회복지 계에서는 아직 영성과 관련된 연구가 이루어지지 않았기에 이에 관한 소개와 더불어 그 필요성을 논하고자 하였다.
본 연구의 방법으로는 영성과 관련된 사회사업문헌을 고찰하는 방식으로 행하였다. 먼저 "영성"의 유래와 그 개념을 영성의 출발점인 그리스도교 영성에 한정시켜 고찰하였다. 그리고 사회사업에 영성의 개념이 도입되는 과정을 미국의 사회사업의 역사와 관련하여 문헌고찰을 통해 살펴보았다. 마지막으로, 사회사업 실천영역에 중추적 역할이 되는 강점(strengths)과 역량강화(empowerment)의 실천 과정과 영성이 접목될 수 있는지 그 가능성을 시도해보았다.
사회사업분야에서 사용하는 영성에 대한 정의는 첫째, 영성은 인간 존재의 본질적이고 총체적인 질이다. 둘째, 영성은 의미와 도덕적 발달과 초월자, 궁극적 실재와의 관계 확립과 관련된 인간의 한 양상이다. 셋째, 자신의 정체성을 확장하는 초월적 본성을 경험하는 것이다.
영성과 관련된 미국의 사회사업역사와 문화에 관한 고찰에서는 미국의 사회사업이 종파적 분리와 전문적 입지를 확립하고 영성의 수용을 종교적 개념에서 벗어나 그 의미를 확대하려는 시도와 연결시키는 노력으로 파악된다. 그래서 일부사회사업 연구가들은 사회사업실천과 교육에 있어서 영적 차원을 포함하는 것이 중요하다고 말하며, 만약 영적 내용의 결핍을 다루지 않는다면, 사회사업 전문은 전인적, 생태체계학적 접근을 실천할 수 없다고 말한다.
사회사업실천 이론 중 강점과 역량강화 이론을 중심으로 영성적 접근을 시도 했으며, 이 시도는 이러한 이론이 클라이언트에게 적용되기 이전에 전문가로서의 사회사업가 자신의 정체성과 가치 정립의 방법으로 이 접근이 먼저 선행되어야 하는 이유를 설명했다.
본 연구의 마지막에서는 사회사업에서의 영성의 함의에 대해서 논하였다. 사회사업의 영성의 함의는 첫째, 사회복지사 자신의 직업에 대한 정체성확립에 영성적 접근이 기반이 됨을, 둘째, 사회사업실천기술이 실질적 도구로서 클라이언트의 삶의 질을 향상시키는데 영성적 접근의 필요성을, 셋째, 사회 구성원들 간의 연대성확립에 사회사업실천의 영성적 접근을 통한 사회사업의 역할에 관하여 마지막으로 사회사업실천에 영성적 접근을 통한 사회사업교육에서의 단계적이고 체계적인 방법의 개발과 필요성을 강조하였다. 이러한 교육과정을 통한 사회사업의 전문인으로서의 양성은 사회사업이 실천학문의 역할을 훌륭하게 수행할 수 있는 중요한 인적자원의 인프라를 구축할 수 있다고 생각하기 때문이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Over the years, many of social problems and value confusion have paralleled the changes in economic and social development and ideologies of the larger social environment. In this context of fulfilling social work value, respecting human dignity and worth, It is necessary to sort out the value dilemmas and possible conflicts involved. The purposes of this study were to identify vocational responsibility and identity of social workers played in their fields and strive to introduce spirituality found increasingly in social work literature and the need of it to our social work.
The method of this study was to describe the concept of spirituality limited to christian spiritualty and explore the process of embedding spirituality in social work related to social work history and culture of the United States. Finally, this study attempted to connect this concept with social work practice using the presence of strengths and empowerment content as evidence of spiritual sensitive social work.
The findings from this study of spirituality of social work defined as follows. First, spirituality is understood as an essential or holistic quality of the human being, Second, spirituality as a human striving for a sense of meaning and aspect of the person concerned with development of meaning and morality and relationship with a divine or ultimate reality. Finally spirituality as experienced transpersonal nature to expand one's identity.
In the review of the history of connection between spirituality and social work in the United States, from sectarian beginnings through secularization to current reconnections, Spirituality is understood from a nonsectarian vantage point within the profession of social work. So, Many social work researchers have stressed the importance of including the spiritual dimension in social work practice and education. All of these authors believed that the social work profession cannot live up to its commitment to a holistic, ecosystems approach unless it addresses the current lack of spiritual content in practice and education
Implications of this study's findings for social work practice were discussed as follows. First, identifying social workers' vocational identity based on spiritually sensitive social work, Second, improving the quality of clients' life as a real tool of social work practice, Third, the role of spiritually sensitive social work to support people in solidarity, Finally, social work education should focus more systematic steps on providing some form of training in spirituality. It is possible to build on infra of good human resources as a profession in social work practice.
