The purpose of This study were to compare the Internet dependent adolescent with the Non Internet-dependent. More specially, This study were to identify relationships among Daily Hassles, Coping Behavior, Impulsivity and Internet Dependent Use.
The research questions set up for this study were as follow;
First, dose the level of daily hassles make a difference to their Internet-dependent use?
Second, dose coping Behavior make a difference to their Internet-dependent use?
Third, dose the level of impulsivity make a difference to their Internet-dependent use?
Fourth, do daily hassles, coping behavior, impulsivity and Internet-dependent use have positive correlation?
In other to approach these question, 497 adolescent were sampled from two middle school and two high school throughout Korea using the random sampling. The data for the study gathered questionnaires consisted of five part.: (1) background questions, (2) Internet addiction question, (3) impulsivity
question, (4) daily hassles question, (5) coping behavior question. For this research, Three scales were employed. They were; (1) Internet addiction scale, (2) Impulsivity scale, (3) Adolescent stress scale, (4) Stress coping behavior scale. The statistical package, SPSS 10.0 for Window, was employed utilizing ANOVA, pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis to determine possible relationship among variables.
Major result of the this study were as follows:
First, there were meaningful difference of daily hassles level between the Internet-dependent use and Non-Internet-dependent use
Second, there were meaningful difference of coping behavior between the Internet-dependent use and Non-Internet-dependent use
Third, there were meaningful difference of impulsivity between the Internet-dependent use and Non-Internet-dependent use
Fourth, there were positive correlations among Daily Hassles, Coping Behavior, Impulsivity and Internet Dependent Use.
Therefore the conclusions of this study were as follow.;
First, it has been proved that daily hassles affects Internet-dependent use. Internet-dependent user were more likely to get high daily hassles than Non-Internet-dependent use
Second, Internet-dependent user were more likely to select emotional coping behavior, more specially, avoident coping behavior
Third, it has been proved that impulsivity affects Internet-dependent use. Internet-dependent user were more likely to get high impulsivity than Non-Internet-dependent use.
Fourth, there were positive correlations among daily hassles, emotional coping behavior, impulsivity and Internet Dependent Use.
Result of this study supported that daily hassles, emotional coping behavior, and impulsivity have significant relations with Internet Dependent Use.
