This paper is considered to Korean gustatory adjectives as a vocabulary system which divided into 'sweet, bitter, sour, salty, puckery, and hot' and derivative vocabulary from these. Based on this system, this study constructed a systematic semantic field with the relationship between features and meanings of gustatory adjectives, and also inquired into cases that gustatory adjectives indicate different meanings transferred from their original ones by association of meanings.
This procedure showed that morphologic classification of gustatory adjectives distinguishes meanings of a word; the subjectivity of gustatory adjectives is emphasized, the gustatory consistency is distinguished, and a speaker's judgment about the taste was expressed distinguishably according to morphologic features such as combination with an affix, a change of a phoneme, and etc.
This study also inquired into an aspect that meanings of gustatory adjectives are transferred to the synesthetic or a senseless abstract concept, and this is the result of a metaphor which is metonymy, replacing other word related to a metaphor according to the similarity of attribute linguistically. In addition, transferred meanings are blending of not only gustatory adjectives but also transferred meaning of a noun which combined with gustatory adjectives.
