This study was to establish a better relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
This research was done by interviewing in 5 districts in accordance with the standard of living and age.
The collected data were analysed by statistical methods such as percentages and Chi-sequare, which is presented by the computer center of Kun-Kuk University.
The result of this study is summarized like this.
1. The attitude of mother-in-law to the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
1) It seemed that more than half of the mothers-in-law recognize that their authority was weakened.
2) Most of the mothers-in-law think that daughters-in- law are responsible for the conflict.
3) Mothers-in-law rarely think their son's family as an independent one.
4) Almost all mothers-in-law want to have an authority over domestic affairs until they become old in age.
5) Mothers-in-law think that they have to interfere in daughters-in-law's home.
6) Mothers-in-law are negative on living with daughters- in-law.
7) Mothers-in-law have economic and emotional fear for seperate life from their children's family.
8) Mothers-in-law who want to live with their son's family expect economic help from them.
9) Almost all mothers-in-law want to live with their elder son or sons who make them comfortable.
This shows some differences among age, education, the standard of living, number of daughter-in-law, experience of their past life, the existance of their husbands and time of living together with daughters-in-law.
2. The reason of the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
The order of the discontent is like following:
1) Daughter-in-law's neglect to serve father-in-law and mother-in-law.
2) Neglect the relationship between brothers and in-laws.
3) Daughter-in-law's rude attitude to their son.
4) No conversation in every affairs.
S) No respect for mother-in-law's opinion about domestic affairs.
6) Daughter-in-law's poor management of domestic affair.
7) Daughter-in-law's close relationship with her true parents.
8) Daughter-in-law's wrong method of raising children.
9) Daughter-in-law's dislike that mother-in-law is concerned about her son.
This also shows some difference among age, education, the number of daughter-in-law, the existence of their husbands and the time of living together with their daughters-in-law.
3. Mother-in-law's conflict indicating behavior
Most of the mothers-in-law endure, otherwise they avoid their daughters-in-law or they visit other children.
They rarely show their direct response to their daughters- in-law.
There's some difference among age, education, the existence of their husbands and the time of living together with their daughters-in-law.
4. Conflict mediation behavior
1) If mothers-in-law have conflict with their daughters- in-law they discuss mostly with their husbands and next with their daughter, friend, sister, son or other son.
2) Fathers-in-law do not want to interfere in the conflict. But if they interfere they stand on mother-in- law's side rather than daughter-in-law.
3) Sons interfere in the conflict and mothers-in-law, think that their sons stand on daughter-in-law's side.
4) More than half of the mothers-in-law are discontent with their son's mediation behavior.
5) Daughters interfere in the conflict of their mother and sister-in-law and they stand on their mother's side.
This shows some difference among age, education, the number of daughter-in-law, the experience of their past life, the existence of their husbands.
5. The influence of the conflict to the relationship of the family.
It seemed that the conflicts itself play some negative effects on the relations between legal mother-daughter between wife-husband relationship of their son, and between mother-son pair.
This also shows some difference among age, education, the existance of their husbands, the time of living together with their daughters-in-law.
