This paper is aimed at researching the lives of students in the dormitory and school of the Institues of Korean Studies for Foreign Stucents, by their adjustment degree. Therefore I have prepared the theoretical basis centering on general adjustment theory and the theory of education in the Unification Thought, with the aim of analyzing the real situation of education in Korea for these students indents in order to create a better educational paln for them in the future.
I have serveyed the students and their teachers, with the purpose of analyzing their motivation and background on studying in Korea, as well as their school work and dormitory life.
I have used the adjustment theory of some scholars as theoretical background for this paper.
In the school life, these,these scholars consider the following as positive adjustments : Resolving their desires rationally; feeling satisfaction ; and keeping harmonious relationships in their classes,their studies and specila activities. Another important positive featuer is maintaining harmonious relationships with their teachers.
On the other hang, negative adjustment features include: feeling emotional unrest; and their desires and efforts net being recrived positively by their peers and teachers.
I have placed specila emphasis on analyzing the student's adjustment to Korean culture and how that and the Unification Church beliefs affect their everday life. My conclusions to their studies in Korea. The following is my summary of this conclusion:
First the motivation and background of their belifs have had a gerat influence on their reasons for coming to Korea to study. One of the main reasons for their faith. This thought of their parents strongly influenced the children to come to Korea. But because this feeling of love for Korea has passed from parent to child, the students also were personally motivated by the same thought to come tO Korea to study.
Second, the result of survey shows that most of students adjusted well in school life and got high grades in school work. But also, the students showed positive attitues in their ralationship with their teachers and fellow students. The result of their teachers suruey indicated the same positive attitude of the students for teachers and fellow students.
The most important purpose of the students coming to Korea is to learn the Korea language.In this area, their was some difference in results between the Junior high school students and the Senior high school students, but overall, the majority of students have done very well in learning to read, write and speak the Korean language.
Third the surveys have shown that the adjustment to life in Korea has been generally good.This is because thier life din the dormitory is well organized and follows training and guidance through daily prayer meetings and Sunday service according to their rsligious faith.In addition, the students participate in hobbiesand various club activities.The students also feel that studying in an international setting, where students from all around the world come, is a broadening and positive experience.
Through their dormitory life, the students get the opportunity to deepen their experience of the culture of the Unification Church.
In conclusion, these surveys have shown that the majority of students have realized their goals of studying in Korea. In particular, they feel that the religious training and guidance they received in the dormitory has been the most valuable part of studying in Korea.
