현대사회에서의 자아표현 연구 = (A) Study on expressing self in modern society

국문 초록 (Abstract)

20세기 현대사회는 산업기술의 급진적 발달을 통해 물질적인 풍요와 정보매체의 홍수를 가져왔으며 구성원들의 삶과 외부환경을 변모시켰다. 현대사회를 구성하는 자본주의는 대량생산을 통한 물질적인 풍요와 함께 현대사회의 도시화를 가져왔고 그로 인해 인간의 개인주의적인 성향과 물질적 가치관을 조장하기에 이르렀다. 이러한 상황들은 인간이 태어난 그 순간부터 사회화 과정을 통해 타인과의 관계를 맺어 가는 동안 지속적으로 영향을 미친다. 그러나 인간은 인간의 고유한 존재 조건을 인지하고 이해할 수 있는 주체로 존재할 때만이 진정한 자아를 찾게 되며 삶도 풍요롭게 된다. 이러한 자각을 작품을 통해 표현하고자 하였으며 특히 자신의 정체성을 찾아가는 과정을 표현하고자 하였다.
본 연구는 현대인들이 물질적 풍요로움 속에서 인간 본연의 주체성과 정신적 가치의 중요성을 점차 망각해가고 있으며 익명의 군중, 즉 타인으로부터, 또 자기 자신의 진정한 자아로부터 소외되어가고 있는 가운데 현대사회 속에서 겪게 되는 인간성 상실에 대한 자아의 심리적 갈등을 자아의 내면 속에 잠재되어 있는 또 다른 주관적인 모습으로 나타내어 인간관계를 필요로 하면서 그 속에서 각각의 본성을 가지고 독립된 주체로서 나아가며 나타나는 자아의 이중성을 인체형상을 통하여 시각적으로 표현하는 데에 그 목적을 둔다.
이론적 배경으로는 현대사회에서 사회적 현상과 이에 따른 인간의 소외의식과 정체성의 상실에 대해 살펴보았다. 정체성을 상실한 자아를 되찾아 가는 과정으로 자아의 철학적 개념에 대해 살펴보고 미술로 표현된 작품을 분석하였다.
작품 제작에 있어서는 자신의 모습을 바라보는 자아를 표현하기 위해 자신의 인체형상 이미지를 프린트하고 그 이미지를 분할하여 낚시줄(Mono Filament)을 이용해 평직으로 제직함으로써 자신의 형상을 사실적으로 부각시켰다. 브로케이드(Brocade) 기법을 이용해 인체의 실루엣을 표현하여 눈, 코, 입이 없는 인체 형상을 통한 자아의 정체성 상실을 상징적으로 표현하였다.
결론으로 본 연구는 현대 사회에서의 정신과 물질의 이중구조 사이의 자아의 내적 갈등 속에서 이기주의, 개인주의, 비인간화로 인한 자아의 정체성 상실을 표현하고, 더 나아가 자기 자신의 내면세계를 되돌아봄으로써 주체적 자각을 통해 사회 속에서의 두려움과 절망을 이겨내고 잃어버린 자아를 되찾고자 하는 데 그 의미를 두었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

'Consumption' in modern society is desire-satisfying process of solving human desires rather than that of consuming intrinsic material products. Man confirms his own life and quality through consumption and satisfying desire in consumptive society means the attachment to material values. Showing the aspect of becoming fetishistic, the society alienates man, makes false consciousness by consumption, and has him indulged in narcissism due to the indirect experiences by mass media.
Such situations continue to affect man from the moment he is born while he has relations with others through the process of socialization. However, he comes to find his true self and make his life abundant only when he exists as a subject who can recognize and understand his proper existential conditions. I expressed such self-awareness through my work and indicated it for the process of seeking his own identity.
This study is aimed at expressing through another shape potential in the inside of self the psychological conflict which self gets to experience in modern consumptive society.
For theoretical background, I have examined social phenomena and human sense of alienation and loss of identity that occur through mass media in modern consumptive society. I have explained them centered on self and self's desire indicated through others to recover self whose identity was lost and compared and analyzed the works of domestic and foreign artists who expressed self through human body.
In manufacturing my work, I manufactured and wove it by using mono filament with the most fundamental weaving of textile in which to weave weft and warp by interchanging them one by one, highlighted the image of self by manufacturing and weaving it by using silk screen so as to express how self looks at that made other one, and expressed the silhouette of human body by using the technique of brocade.
In conclusion, the meaning of this study consists in expressing through self human inner conflict in modern society and, furthermore, wanting to recover lost self through subjective self-awareness by looking back oneself.
