I focused on the "Mongyurok" which dealt with the historical facts because literature reflects the reality. "Mongyurok" was produced in the 16 and 17 centuries, namely the middle age of the Chosun Dynasty, when various social and political paradox and changes took place. I dealt with the social and political paradox and shifts during those period. In "Mongyurok", the author tried to express past and present historical facts through his recognition of reality by using dream as a literary tool. In that period, given the fact that mongyurok-like works were frequently created, I believe the emergence of "Sarim Clique"(a new political clique) had a great deal of influence on the social and political background at that time.
Through this premise, I looked into how the author reflected the reality on the dream world and what was his attitude towards the reality like.
In the first place, in "Daekwanjaemongyurok", "Simyui" tried to show an ideal world where he could get his literary ability appreciated. In other words, although "Simyui" had an outstanding talent in writing, he couldn't express his real ability and lived in a miserable condition in real life. So he built his own literary world in the dream world. Eventually, his literary gift was appreciated by people. However, as he did in reality, he became frustrated again because of lots of criticism and accusation in the end in his dream world as well.
In "Anbingmongyurok", a dreamer saw the dream world as a reflection of the paradoxical reality. The author described the corruptive aspects of real politics and allocated these aspects in the world of "Hwawon Kingdom". The author "Sin Kwang Han" was involved in "Kimyosahwa"(a political incident) and lived in isolation in Yeoju area. That is why he reflected the paradoxical situation where two parties couldn't find any agreements and did harm each other continuously on the dream world. We can also find some interesting facts in the "Hwawon Kingdom". The dreamer didn't express his opinion obviously because he thought that was the best way to survive in the political situation which forced him to choose an alternative. Therefore, his hypocrisy showed his internal conflict between a conservative noble party and a new political party.
Last of all, in "Wonsangmongyurok", Imjae dealt with "Sayuksin(six dead loyal ministers) which was a taboo at that time because it was so sensitively related to the legitimacy of royal authority. However, to confirm the establishment of Sarim, Imjae reflected the Sarim's reality through the noble spirit of Sayuksin.
